I'm not opening my lid this time either. I am incubating in egg crates so I just prop up the box on a book and turn it several times a day. I just added four dozen more eggs to the incubator tonight and I'm nervous about it. I warmed them up in the hatching bator so surely they were a good temperature before I transferred them and I won't have temperature swings. I had them warming for over 24 hours. My incubator is stuffed full and I want to bid on some eggs tonight to go with something I am hoping to hatch out. I wish I had a HUGE incubator and I could stick 100 eggs in there!

Well now you know mohillbilly will fix you right up with one that holds 100 or MORE

Hey everyone I know this is probably getting a little too picky but.... at what time do we put the eggs in lockdown thursday ??? Would it be somewhere around the same time of day we actually set them ? Thanks for any answers :)

I never write down what time I put mine in the incubator to begin with and I have wondered if it helps you pin down when the pips should start to happen, so obviously I just put mine in on day 18 when I find time to do it during the day. This last hatch I didn't put them in until late in the day and I don't remember now what was going on that there was such a delay. Oh, the hatching box wasn't ready and I couldn't get the LG stabilized. I was having troubles galore over here. I think they just start getting into position around day 18 and that is why you're not supposed to turn them any more.
I'm getting so excited for you!!!!! I hope you take pics and post. I can't wait to see your cochin babies too!
Wow, I thought it was taking forever for you guys to get to lockdown, but now that I see everyone posting that it's time, I'm like that was fast!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. I can't wait to see my cochins either. Now that I am within a week of hatching I have 2 hens broody. They are both sitting on eggs (don't know how many tho). So I may have more in 20 days or so :)

I hope that at least one of my eggs hatch. This is my first time setting eggs and I have had a hard time of keeping the temp at 99.5. It keeps going up and down.

We will see what this weekend brings.

What does it fluctuate between? My last hatch it ranged from 97 - 99 and they hatched fine and right on time. If the temps are a little low, it may delay the hatching some so don't throw the eggs out if they aren't hatching right at day 21.

Oh, boy, those broodies. You tell me if you think they are kind of a mess! Some of mine are clean and others are just disgusting, yuck. And I have to poopy scoop after them like the dogs!!!! I'm thinking between the silkies and cochins next year I won't need much of an incubator....I'll just keep the girls busy, LOL!
My Magoo looks like she is wanting to go broody as of this morning. Oh, I don't think I'm ready for it. I have learned a lot with the hens and I probably only touched the surface. Two girls got into a huge fight over chicks on day 2 and then yesterday my toolbox Earleen got ousted from her nest by Magoo and she was pacing a lot and stepped on one of the silkie chicks. Baby is fine and they all got a new pen to themselves and she's settled. I just didn't realize it would be so much work. Now I'm really not sure if I like having the babies in the brooder box better! If they sit, keep me posted.
