Adorable babies!
What humidity are the two in lockdown at?
I couldn't get mine to go above 60% last week during lockdown and it worked out fine. When the chick started zipping it went up to 65% on its own and hovered around there. Then when I would get several zipping at a time, it skyrocketed to 80%. My DH rigged up two straws with a Q-Tip stuck in the end and wiped the top of the incubator windows off to get the humidity back down! I didn't have any chicks get stuck or drowned.

I put 2 panti-liners inside.. then sponges in the wells, and filled those, and soaked the panti-liners. That brought it up to 66%. I wanted it higher, so I got a paper towel, 3 layers thick, and folded them. (Bounty). Then I poured the water in, so it was running out the bottom, lol. Didn't know there were holes in there. Kind of used the tea-towel under the brinsea Octagon advance 20.. to 'plug' up those holes. This brought the humidity up to 73%, and its been holding ever since. And, the vent in the very top by the digital read-outs is 1/3rd open, like it suggests to have it at hatching. I hope this is OK. When they hatch, and the humidity goes sky high, I will open the vent to 1/2. And, hope that works! 2 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I already ran 4 hatches this year and was not going to run another one. BUT. on 3/31 I set 14 americanas for a friend. and 10 game eggs for another friend so I said phooey on it and filled the egg turner with 15 more upside down sexlinks I call them. ( RIR hens and Barred Rock roosters.) . I have no idea about the eggs from outside sources. but I already had a perfect hatch this year so I'll continue to let the Good Lord look over my incubators and find out how I'm going to end my spring hatches.

I can't wait either. So excited. Went to TSC today to get a dog crate and saw the chickies. They have speckled sussex, I want some. Soooo early next week after I set up my feed tub with my heat lamp, guess where i'm heading.....DH will never know. (I need to do this without the girls or they will tell daddy that mommy got some chicks at the store. )Unless all 24 hatch and 6 more just appear, but.... do you think he'll be able to count all those fuzzy butts. Hummm I can pull the wool over his eyes this time. Tee hee. Chicken addict.
