Set eggs today, 2/6/10. Who's with me?

I'm not sure I want my hens caring for the eggs. I'de have to get a chair and bring the laptop out at a time like this. Or, maybe just get some exercise running back and forth to check on things. Well, maybe that's not so bad after all.

Oh, I don't mind the excercise! We even have to shovel paths out to the coop. It's up at the knees right now. I'm too excited to complain, tho, and I love being outside. It's nice having all this anticipation in the middle of winter. We are going to seperate out the other hens today to our other coop. Plus we have a brooder ready for the chicks if we think there will be a problem out there. We do have a heat lamp that will be on for them. In other words - we are ready!!!

Just got home from work. (I might have snuck out a bit early.)

16 peeping chicks greeted me. Several other pips. Hard to tell exactly how many with all the chicks in there, lol.

We have been playing H E double hockey sticks controlling the new bator. Couple high spikes and low humidity but it seems to be under control now. We have three pips at this time on our Rir eggs. We started our staggard hatch 9:00 pm on the 6th so we think the real action will start tonight or Saturday even. We have a bator lost in the mail and are holding another 20 plus duck eggs to be put in that one. We still have groups going in our present incubator with a large group to be started tommorrow. Busy Busy Good Hatching to All.

My daughter woke me at 6:30 and said I had to get up and do something about the hatched chick running amock in the hatcher

I got up and went to look .......... one of the mystery LF chicks I bought in the store had hatched and when it got out of the carton, the weight of the huge egg opposite it flipped the carton and that egg rolled out, the third egg at the other end of the carton kept the carton tilted up and the wet chick was huddled under the carton. [Pics to follow, camera battery charging] There was nothing going on in the Suro with the 15 B-Ameraacauna eggs in it. I went back to bed for "another hour", and DH woke me at 11:30 saying I needed to get up so we could go to Lowes for the crate I bought before he had to leave for work. Checked bators, still just the one LF chick but 4 sweet the bantam-A babies filling the empty space in the center of the Suro

It's really going to be crowded in there if I don't pull some, but will wait for now.

One lesson learned --- Don't try to hatch honkin-big eggs in a carton!

Lay them on their sides Hope DSIL gets home soon so that I can get back home to check progress in the hatchers!!!

1 chick out now, as of 4 p.m. (just in time for neighbor kid to see before they went home!).

No sign of any action in the other 11 eggs. Hmmm. I *hope* they are ok...

Went out to the coop around 6:00 and didn't see anything going on. Eggs are warm and broodies are still sitting tight. Am I missing something? ?

Anyway... very excited for the rest of yous. Just so neat! Love it!!!

Just got my first pip!!! This is my first time also and I'm hoping the other 7 will be coming around. I didn't think it would take this long after lockdown. I hope the water ports don't run out of water because I don't want to open it.
Good luck all.
