Set eggs today, 2/6/10. Who's with me?

First time hatching in an incubator - homemade incubator with a dimmer switch instead of a thermostat (does require more monitoring) - Had 18 eggs in lockdown and didn't set them till 8 pm. on day 0

1 hatched on day 20
7 hatched on day 21
8 hatched on day 22
3 eggs left - 1 pipped at the wrong end, 1 does have a pip, third is unknown at this time

#15 is still in the bator with the last 3 eggs:

Edited to add: Still had 18 eggs as of day 10 - started with 22 eggs (2 were fertile & 2 developed blood rings)

I got my current egg from a BYC auction. The seller was Evermore Ranch. Here is what was advertised:

"7 Spangle OEGB (Have not tried to hatch any of these this season but 100% last year and same quad)
3 Crele OEGB (just added some to bator ad so far look fertile)
3 Blue/Black Silver OEGB (100% hatch rate here)
1 BB Red OEGB (We just got this pair and they just started laying but we were told they were fertile layers)
4 Milli Fleur D'Uccle (100% hatch rate here)
2 Serama (Pet Quality - some in incubator excellent veining)"

Hatch count:
Mille Fleur: 5/5 hatched (I know that only 4 were in the auction, but somehow I got 5 eggs and 100% hatch rate from them!)
Blue/Black Silver OEGG: 4/4 (Again, there were only 3 in the auction, but I got 4 eggs and 100% hatch rate)
BB Red OEGB: 0/1
Crele: 0/3
Serama: 0/2
Spangle OEGB: 6/7

So, for a 24 hour auction, with shipped eggs, I got 15 chicks! A hatch rate of 68%. That is awesome for shipped eggs. I highly recommend Brandi and her eggs!

I am so glad you had a good turn out! The pictures are great! love seeing the grandchickies. I will be posting more eggs soon as everyone is starting to lay again we are confirming fertility now and have confirmed all but the Crele and Seramas (hopefully soon)

Finally got our first pip this morning around 11:00. Later in the afternoon I could hear peeping very loudly coming from the egg. That was pretty cool.

DD saw chickie at 5:37. We're not sure if it's a Dominque or maybe a blue cochin. Time will tell. Nothing else so far but will be running out to the coop early tomorrow morning! Woo-hoooooo! I like all the picts yous have posted. Keep them coming!

They have arrived!! My first hatch and so far 2 chicks, 5 pips and nada on one. I'll try and post a picture.

How long is everyone leaving eggs in the bators. In on the 6th out of luck on the ? We had 7 pip and hatch from 1:30 am Friday to Friday at 4 pm. 17 eggs left and nothing happening at all - no noise , rocking, pips.

Morning guys! Well, our precious new life in the coop is a Dominique hen (YES!!!)

DD named her Blizzard since she was born during a storm! Love it. I can remember that name. So far no other pips or sign of other life. Weird. I'm certain at least 5 others were viable. Blizzard came from the smallest egg, who wouldv'e thunk it?

Hens are still not leaving nest. What good mamas I've got. We are leaving Blizzard with Jenny java for now but will have to put food and water in the nest box for her. We will monitor her all day long and bring her in if we feel she isn't getting the food and water she needs.

Nice pict chipchip!

One of my three that were pictured has hatched, the other to are still basically the same. I can see the chicks breathing, so I'm just letting them ride. No distress, no crying, just little peeps now and then and rocking. The Blue Langshan eggs have done nothing, only one hatched and the others are just sitting there. I thought I saw some rocking, but that might have just been my hopeful imagination.

I started my cochin egg a fews days late, so I am going to keep the bator going for a bit longer, maybe two more days. That would be to day 24. I hate to give up hope, but my incubator space is already spoken for! (LF Araucana, mixed colors, white, and lavendar).

My second bator is set to hatch on Saturday-- silkies, cochins, maybe one dark cornish (I doubt it, none developed, but this shell is too thick, so I can't really candle it).

Then in another week we'll have some bantam polish, all of which have excellent veining at this point!
