DD's teacher set 32 eggs yesterday (I ordered 8 Ameraucanas and 4 Araucanas and my FIL supplied the rest). It's my first time, but not the teacher's. How much fluctuation in temp is "OK"? Teacher expressed concern that his incubator was fluctuating .5 to 1 degree.
Hi,
I set 12 Serama eggs yesterday.
I have been hovering ( Like a mother hen) pardon the pun ,checking the incubator about every hour and a half.
I lost 24 eggs about a week ago and am really paranoid now.
Really cannnpt figure ot out.....about 1/2, a little more, were clear.........about 4 looked like day 10 possibly and three that looked
close to term................
Anyway, we'll see how it goes.........
I have an LG.and have had fluctuations in both heat and humidity, this last hatch.......not bad, just unexplainable.
This time I put the incubator in a box with the top open and will see if this makes a difference.......
Good luck to all......
I set 13 silkie eggs on 4/19 and today 4/22 I set 15 button quail, 11 silver sebright, and 17 old English game cock bantam eggs. I have a georgia quail cabinet incubator and it has been a pretty reliable machine. Hopefully we don't have any power outages. Oops I may have just jinxed myself.

Cool. More seramas. Where did you get your eggs? I think I'll try a box of sorts also. I have some High R insulation board in the barn. Think i'll use that and make a box with a hinged to that covers most of it but leaves enough for fresh air.

What do you do with your quail? Might be a dumb question, I have done chickens for quite some time and grew up on a farm, just never knew anyone that had quail. I was told by a friend that an agency in VT raises them and pheasant to release into the wild.
Well, my silkie hen who had been laying went broody,
so I gave her the 6 silkie eggs she had lain, plus the 2 cochin eggs I had set to hatch on May 12, plus she had laid one more. So she had a total of 9 under her.
She is such a wonderful mommy hen, I can't deny her the chance to hatch her own babies, besides it sure saves me a lot of work and worry.
I still have the 6 Ameraucanas and 7 barnyard mixes in the incubator.
My wife wanted some button quail, which means I will be building an aviary for her. She wants an asian garden like the one on youtube. She enjoys putting me to work.
