Set our second hatch Saturday 5/12/12

Did you see the chick hatch???

Is it ok with the whole chick pile on??? Is that part of chick initiation? I was so worried for it when they all piled on it!

It looks so tiny--are you hatching bantams too? I will have to go look back. I am worried for the pip at the wrong end. Seems to be having trouble!

How many do you have now Bill? How many did you start with? I need to go catch up on the camera, lol....

I'm a little worried and not sure if I need to be or not but I don't have any new pips that I can see. I'm soooooooo looking forward to the Salmon Faverolles and will be so disappointed if they don't hatch.

As of right now I have 5 healthy Americaunas, that belong to a friend and 3 light Brahmas. I did pull them all and move them to the brooder when I got home. I moved quickly and added some warm H2o so it seems to have held temp and humidity well, not too worried about that.

But, I WANT MORE PIPS!!!!! I set them 5/12 at 7pm so they are not too late, yet.....

Here are a few pics, Americauna (light) and Light Brahmas (dark).

I'm going nuts hoping, praying I get my pips soon!!! Lots of eggs I was REALLY looking forward too, blah.........

On a good note the few chicks I have gotten are doing great!!!!

Becky how many more eggs do u have? Refresh my memory, did u candle them and they looked good? What temp did u keep it at? Where did u get the eggs that have not pipped? Your first babies are cute and for me I would be happy if 6 of mine hatch but I know these are for your friend so I really hope you get some late comers! It could be anytime now!!

I'm waiting on one more Americauna (they all belong to a friend), 8 Light Brahmas, 4 Dorkings and 16 of the original 20 Salmon Faverolles. I purchased the Dorking and Faverolles eggs so really wanting them to hatch, at least a few or them.

This is only my second hatch. I tried the dry method. Things were far more stable this time than my first hatch, how I got 12 out of 15 is beyond me, lol... This time things have looked real good. I let them run at 99.5 in my LG that came with a fan and turner, last time my temps were all over the place because I fiddled with it. I candled at 7 days or so and had 4 duds-the SF so I pulled them. I candled again at day 14 and had some questions on a few of the SF but left them, in hopes they were okay. We lost power for 3 hrs the other night and my temps dropped to 85* even covered in towels. The Americaunas came from a friend with only one hen so it took her a week to collect eggs and she got 5 of her 6 so far. My LB should be good, that's why I still have hope they are good and fertile and I got a good hatch last time. The others I purchased but they were doing at least something in there by day 7 so I'm crossing my fingers, but I still see nothing........

I have 3 incubators. I'm a bit nuts but live in Maine and there is always a need for chicks, pullets, hens, eggs and people have no problems eating dual purpose birds around here so even Roos have a purpose. I try to keep up on my eggs orders but often fall short, even more so now that they have been going in the bator. I only have 11 hens so it's easy to be sold out every day and I only have 2 buyers, lol.... So hoping to sell more eggs too in the future.

But anyway, I also have Bator #2 have 8 purchased Dorkings and 28 of my Light Brahmas. Set 5/23, lock down June 9th, expected hatch June 12th.

Bator #3 set today, has 5 Birchen Marans and 23 Light Brahmas. Set 6/2, lock down 6/20, expected hatch June 23rd.

I currently have 1 Light Brahma Rooster and 11 Light Brahma hens. They are now 13 months old and laid through the winter well. I had one hatch of 12 and had them sold to a friend two days after they hatched. I have 6 of the 3, lol LB's that hatched sold as well, so hoping for at least 3 more LB's to hatch.
