Set some eggs just now, due date 20th July.... anyone else setting just now? Hatch-Along

You guys are brave, I dont want to have to assist a hatch (no incubating for me)-- but we did look under our broody alot yesterday and my 10 yr old got into the coop and kept lifting her up off the eggs-- now I am concerned we might have caused the pipping egg to lose humidity and become shrink wrapped-- this happened in June to her last clutch-- one of the eggs wasnt pipped but there was a fully formed chick (you could see it breathing(?) inside and half of the shell was sort of crumbled off and the membrane was thick on that shelless half... SO I hope thats not happening again...

Yeah this membrane was super thick too. I feel really bad though, it could have survived but I lost my discernment after dealing with all the other losses.

Gen9 you just had a huge hatch that lasted all weekend but they were set the same time?

they don't move much just before they pip...hatching is hard work lol....I'm sure I speak for Gen9 and myself...we are waiting by the computer for updates! lol

and you are very welcome that's what this website is for so us crazy chicken fools can obsess together lol

yep, All were set at the same time, except one, & that one hatched a little early. They all hatched days 19-20, the 1st one died 48 hrs after it hatched, the last 2 hatched on day 21 & the assisted hatch a little after day 21, the self hatch was doing so well I thought it would make it but died Yesterday, so that would be 48 hours after it hatched too. Both of them had a prolapse I don't think it was the cord, after reading a few threads. I had 2 that never hatched, my husband opened them, they were fully formed but malpositioned I think I may have killed them with the assisted hatch. I will never know.
Hatching IS hard work, just remember not to rush it, that thing has been inside the inner self, & it needs to adapt to it's outer self
