Set today, Sept 28th. Anyone else?

I candled mine last night and have a couple of no gos....but i left them just in case they are just slow starters.....sorry to hear about yours spunkychicken hope the next batch works out better for you...i am not sure about the time of year but most small hatcheries shut down this time of yr so it probably is less eggs and less fertility...otherwise they would surely hatch and ship now and shut down in the cold winter and early spring.....jeff i am curious how many of your eggs from your hens were good? you said some were shipped turkens? everything i have read says the shipped ones normaly hatch a lower percentage...anyway sounds like we will have the pity pity patter of the itty bitty feet marching around in a few days ....happy hatching

I candled one of the silkie eggs last night and it looks like a winner! I will candle the rest Sunday night when I have the good LED flashlight but it was so exciting!

We had someone keeping an eye on them, and left town for nearly a week. Came home, all looked good so we decided to do our last candle. 18 of the remaining 22 were alive and kicking, including Turken, EE, and what will amount to a few black sex links!

If I'm figuring this right, having set them early morning on September 28th, lock down will come later today, with hatching beginning on Tuesday some time. Excited!!! Found an old bookcase someone threw away, and converting it into a brooder for them. Some of these chicks have already been promised to others, and the others...we want them!

Replacements for the one we lost to a dog attack and the 2 we had to cull.

How is everyone else doing???

I set two sizzle eggs on the 28th. Both look good. I am going to put them in lock down tomorrow which is the 19 day. I have others I set on October 5th.

We set 50+ eggs on the 29th. Today is day 16 and we have 32 still looking good. Just set 32 more this week!

I set six yesterday, and three more today. I have duck eggs. Three pure breds and six mutts.

In regard to candling, I have candled mine on an almost daily basis, however I do not pick them up and handle them while candling.

We set on the 29th and planned lockdown tomorrow but I'm thinking of candling for internal pips and holding off a day or so. I had quite a few staggered over several days, so holding off as long as possible.
