Settin chicken eggs tonight! 8-4-11

Well, I set ten Muscovy duck eggs today...does that count? Bad news is it takes 35 days for these babies to hatch...the last batch I set gave me a 95 percent hatch...the person who bought them, wanted them all which left me with zero babies. I only have one laying age female with two of her earlier girls not quite old enough to lay...so...I raided Esme's nest and took ten...these are keepers...I had some very lovely colors in the last group...barred, chocolate, black and white pied and three blue and white...I hope I get a couple different colors this time too...the duck and drake are both black and white, the two young girls are black and white and a blue and white...35 days seems like a long time...sigh...

Of course y'all can join! We'll welcome any and all no matter what eggs you've got

destin0709: wow. when those guineas hatch it's gonna be noisy! lol

duck walk: I sure hope you're able to get that good of a hatch rate this time around too! I'd love to be able to get a hatch rate like that. But this is my first time hatching so I doubt I'll get anywhere near that. I'd love it if I did though for sure!

ANY ANSWERS!!!???? lol

I doubt you should be able to hear any peeping yet. From what I've read that doesn't happen until their about to hatch. I don't know about the candling part since this is my first hatch. I do know that you should be able to see veins along the inside if their fertile but I'm not sure how soon you can see this.

How long have your eggs been in the incubator?

well.. the story is that we got them from our friends who own a big chicken farm for eggs not meat. and they gave us 6 of there fertile eggs! so we didnt know what time they were layed but when i was canddling this one particulare egg it was the biggest black sot and so i think that this one will hatch soon! and the others are pretty young as i suspected! lol

When did you get them and when did you put them in the incubator though? It takes 21 days for a chicken to hatch.

yea that was what i was going to do but i dont really think they know lol! this is because they use a horse barn for their chicken coop and have too many chickens to keep up with lol! so i dont know i will go over or call them later if i have to! thanx again! how are your eggs going? you have gotten them right? i forgot if you did or not! lol
