you said that you WERE NOT going to get them!!!!! well atleast that is what you said last time we talked!!! lol and yes they have gotten bigger!!! Nugget has feathers growing down her legs!!

KDailey: what does that mean if a chicken has feathers growing down their legs??

It's totally fine if they have feathers on their legs. That's actually a requirement for some breeds.

Here are some of mine that have feather legs:

Silkies (also have 5 toes on each foot instead of 4)

Cochin Bantam

Giant Cochins. You can really see their feather legs

Official Candling Activity!
If you haven't candled already let's do so and record what each egg looks like.

This is how I did mine. I numbered each egg on top as well as wrote what the egg is so I can see it from the viewin window. Then on a piece of paper I did like this:
1. Bantam Cochin-dark on fat end, can see veins and embryo
2. Golden Lakenvelder-completely light colored. Looks kinda porous too. Pretty sure it's a no-go.
3. etc etc etc

After recording how each egg looks put it in one of these catagories:
*Excellent- can see definate veins and embryo (can also be in this category if you think your pretty sure you can see an embryo but it's not 100%)
*Good/Alright- can see some veins, no embryo visible or barely visable
*Not sure- dark on fat end, can't really see much, or egg is dark colored so hard to candle
*Extreme Doubt/Dead- reserve this category for eggs that you extremely doubtfull about their progress or that you are completely sure it's dead or never developed at all

After you decide which category the eggs go it, list them for us here. You can do this in one of these ways:

-By breed like so:
Cochins-
4 excellent, 1 good, 2 not sure, 1 dead
Golden Lakenvelder-
2 excellent, 3 good, 1 not sure, 1 doubful/dead
etc etc etc

OR

-By category like so:
Excellent-
4 Cochins
2 Golden Lakenvelders
1 Blue andalusian
etc etc etc

Then at the end you can put like this:

Excellent: 14 total
Good: 4 total
etc etc etc

Progress
15 out of 30 eggs are in excellent/good shape as of right now. etc

Here's my candling activity:

I'll have to update with exact breeds later since I'm at work.

I've got 38 eggs in the incubator.

Excellent: 14 total
Good: 5 total
Not sure: 14 total
Doubtful/Dead: 5 total

So I've got 19 out of 38 eggs that look like they're for sure progressing nicely. 50% is better than I was expecting for my first time hatching anything. Lets just hope this continue to go well.

ok so i have to wait to candle again until my dad gets home and so we can let all the chickens out so she doesnt peck at me while in trying to get the eggs!! lol i will post when i do it. i will also take some pictures!! yay! oh and KDailey: thanks i thought so but wasnt sure it was nomal!! lol you have some big babys lol!!! one question, what am i supposed to lable the eggs? we really have no clue what breed they are!! but other than the breed on it what else??

<3 kelsey

If you don't know what breed it is then don't worry about it. You can just number them so you know how progress is going on each egg.

See I have an easter egger egg (#25) that is completely clear. I'm sure it's a no-go but my boyfriend insisted that I leave it in for a few more days. (and he says he doesn't like chickens...
roll.png
) But in a few days I know exactly which egg it was so I don't have to go hunting around through all 38 to find it.

It's best to know how each egg progresses so that you can tell if it needs to be thrown out or kept. If they're bad then sometimes they start stinkin real bad and can explode and you don't want that in your incubator (or under your broody for that matter)

oh ok lol yea my dad says that he is sure that they are not fertile but i was the only one who had the gutts to carry them inside and candle them! so yea. i also heard peepign and cherping lol and i told him that you would smell the bad egg if it was bad. he still doesnt seem to believe me! lol but i will prove him wrong when the fuzzy butts come out lol no im JKing he will most likely prove me wrong because this is our first time with fertile eggs! lol hey have you guys in TX been getting rain? because we just had like 5 drops and its the first time in like 3 weeks lol. just wondering!!
