Setting 26 eggs today (June 27th) Anyone else?

I threw out 2 more eggs today. 1 had a blood ring and one looked clear. So far, all of the ones I was suspicious about when I candled were in fact dead when I opened them. So I am feeling pretty good about my ability to candle now. I have one more that I think is dead but decided to wait a bit longer. I moved it a little farther from the other eggs in the incubator since my eggs are porous and I don't want to cause problems.

On a happier note, I changed the batteries in the flashlight I use to candle and I can see good air cells and movement in all 3 of my BCM eggs!!

I have 2 GLW that also have good veins and definite swimmers. So it looks like I have 5 viable eggs and one more probable tosser (out of 10 shipped eggs). It is only day 10, so I will candle the one in question on day #14 and maybe will candle one more time on day #18.

I am planning on trying the egg carton method this time to keep the chicks:fl from knocking the unhatched eggs around . . . assuming they do in fact make it that far.

I still haven't gotten my pictures yet lol. I will have to get my husband to help me this evening to take some of our chicks to show you. That is if I can catch a min. break.

sportchick sorry your eggs didn't do well maybe next time will be better and hopefully you will be suprized with the really dark ones that you can't candle. I candled my bantam eggs last night and had to throw 4 of them out but the other ones were doing really good.

Joining the June 27 setters. I set 12 bantam cochin eggs under two cochin broodies on June 26. Nothing yet . . . but hopefully will see some action soon. Had to pitch one egg--it had a hole in it, and it looked like there was something growing inside. I made a big mistake (with good intentions of course), and put a small piece of tape over the hole. Obviously that was a bad idea because a couple of days later the egg smelled so bad!! Had one of the chickens break open one other egg--looked like it was just yokey, so we're down to 10. It looked like most were fertile and doing well at about 4-5 days, so I'm hoping this will be a good batch. My last two batches of hatching eggs were dismal (2 out of 8 silkies and 2 out of 12 cochins). I really hadn't intended to do another batch, but felt sorry for my two broody cochins. Most of the other gals have had a chance to be a mom this year, so we couldn't leave these two out. Waiting, praying, and hoping we soon have some fuzzies joining us
