I've already named some of mine haha

i've been naming the chicks as they hatch I have zipper cause one zipped really fast then I have speedy cause it likes to run really fast now and I just had a third one hatch and I don't have a clue what to name it any ideas?

I borrowed an incubator and filled it up with 60 eggs yesterday afternoon, so today is day 1 for me. I am right behind you.
They are mixed breed and purebred - Gold Laced Cochins, GLC X Australorp, GLC X Ameraucana, GLC X RIR.

I get the eggs for chicken sitting another BYC member's flock and she lent me her incubator and said "Have at it! Eat what doesn't fit in there."
I just need to give her some GLC X Au when they hatch. The rest are mine.

I am not sure of the dozen that I held for 9-10 days - maybe they'll hatch, maybe they won't. I was scrambling to build my own incubator and some parts were hard to find. The eggs are definitely fertile and I can't wait to see what hatches out!

I figured in for a penny, in for a pound. Fill the thing and see what hatches.

Maybe I should have started with somewhat less than a full incubator? I tend to get carried away.

Its still really actively trying to learn to walk and cheaping loud constantly. It is yellow with long feathers really long feathers. It also is pecking at the other chicks quiet frequently. I dont have a clue what to name it though. lol

How about Tres? (pronounced Trace) Spanish for Three. Or Pollo Tercero (poy-yo tare-sare-o)= third chicken?

Captain Cluck-Have fun with your hatch!! That's alot of chickies!! You can never get carried away with chickens!!!!! I don't think anyway..unless you have a million..that's a little to far..haha

dusterbd-Hmm not sure Captain Cluck has a cool idea though

Captain cluck its addictive

You said it!!

I brought home ducks the end of April. My adult daughter brought home chickens the same day. I wasn't ready for chickens again - I was learning ducks.

Then I replied to an ad looking for a chicken-sitter in exchange for eggs and met another wonderful BYC member!

When she offered me the use of her incubator as well as the eggy payment, I jumped at the chance to hatch chickens! Maybe I'll get this out of my system all at once? Especially since I have to hand turn and the temps and humidity bounce around every time I open the 'bator. I am trying to squeeze in some heat sinks, but I don't think there's enough room. Gotta get my own 'bator made up this week.

Get it out of my system?
Nah. I'm hooked!

Next hatch has to be ducks! Then a game farm permit and quail! (Can you believe Florida requires private citizens who only want to raise a few quail for the table to buy a game bird farm license/permit?! And they inspect you, even if all you have a pet game bird permit! And you have to pass a test to keep game birds. We sure take our wildlife seriously!

I now have most of the stuff to build my own Miss-prissy-chick-a-bator with an egg turner!
