I set my incubator on lockdown yesterday, which I was thinking it may have been a day too early and not really expecting anything to happen.

Then I had to go out with my daughter today and we didn't get home till after 9 PM.

I checked the eggs around 9:45 and WE HAD A PIP!!!!

I didn't kill them after all - well, at least one!

While we were getting the kids settled down and feeding my husband and son in law, it hatched!
We had a soggy little yellow chick by 10:45 pm. 2 days early!

I am leaving it in the incubator overnight and assembling my brooder in the morning. I thought I'd do it tomorrow anyway.

I hope more hatch.

Thank you Sport & Pippy.

I am so ggcited, I can't sleep. It's hard to resist messing with the new baby, too, so I locked the door to keep me and the kids out LOL.

I am going to try to sleep so I can see what's up in the AM. I still have the chickens I am sitting for, and the physical therapy to do on our injured jr hen, and set up the brooder too. busy day tomorrow.

I know exactly how you feel! I went in their to check on the little D'uccle that was hatching and found a new baby chick! lol

I got three baby quails!! I have no idea what I'm going to do with them when they're grown, so I've got to figure that out. This was our first hatch so it was pretty cool that my son and I just happened to peek in in time to watch them hatch.

Just waiting on my bantam (one egg our of 12 is not goo odds) I hope hi/she makes it

Got up at 5 am to get a drink of water and peeked in on the eggs and had 2 chicks.

Went back to bed. Got up at 7 to 3 chicks and 2 pips!

Now I have 4 in the brooder, 3 drying in the incubator, one zipping and about 4 more pips that I can see.

One has been taking since before 5 am since it had pipped through the shell when I saw it at 5 am. The hole is a little larger, but it is taking its own sweet time about zipping.

Some of those little guys just zip like it was nothing and then some drag their feet like they just don't want to come out.
I hope they are all hatched before Tuesday. There is a broody that has eggs from 4 different days After she had been setting and dummy me didn't think to mark the first eggs. The earliest ones are due next week. So, I will switch her out with some marked fresh eggs that I can keep track of and pop the staggered hatch into the incubator.

I didn't really believe it when I read all the comments about incubating chicks being addicting, but darn! This is fun!

Too bad I already promised to sell these guys. I'd love to keep some. Maybe next hatch.

Seven out of twelve bantam cochin chicks hatched. Looks like I got red, mottled, barred, and buff cochins. Two eggs still haven't hatched on day 22. They look a little suspect and haven't even pipped; but I will still be happy with 7 out of 12. Both cochin mamas are in the same sectioned off area and seem fine with all the babies. When the two moms were setting, I would find them swapping nests just about every day. Not sure what that was all about, but since they were okay with that, I assume they'll be fine with sharing the chicks. Will post pics of the cute fluffies soon.
