Setting 26 eggs today (June 27th) Anyone else?

well two more of the 15 eggs died so that is three down but I have twelve chickies..... On another note I went to clean the incubator up and set it up for lockdown with the bantam eggs and when I got them out of the turner to lay them flat I heard cheaping needless to say I turned them over and sure enough one of the four had already pipped its day 19!!! Im so excited its going to be so tiny and spoiled!!!

AARGH!

Came home to find humidity in the bator at 35%. Kids had been in there too much moving chicks to the brooder during the day. 2 more trying to hatch but shrink-wrapped. I wrapped them in wet paper towels, but didn't seem to work; I peeled enough of the shell/membrane off them to expose thier heads. I then ended up putting them under running water (keeping their heads dry) at 100 deg temp to soften the glue up and free them from the shell/membrane. They seem to be doing pretty well back in the 'bator. Hopefully they'll be fluffed out by morning

So far 19/22 have hatched that made it past the first cull at day #7. I'm not too hopeful for the last 3, as they still have yet to pip. I'll give them till tomorrow (day #22 1/2), then check them out. Not too bad for a homemade incubator

@DusterBD, ok how do you look at the wings of 3d old chicks to determine their sex? Am Oh so curious but can't get my chickies to cooperate to get their wing photos made.

The buff orpington chick I saved is just fine- except the top of his head has the down all stuck together. The rest of him fluffed out nicely.

I'm afraid the tiny BB Red Bantum may end up with long term problems... he fluffed out just fine, but his feet turn inward and he's walking on the sides of them still. Probably should have bailed him out of the egg a day sooner, since it was about 36h from the time he pipped till I rescued him. He's TINY- half the size of the other chicks, and when I put him in the brooder, the other guys started picking on him right away. I moved him into a private shoebox in the brooder, and he's a little lonely in there

I hope he shapes up, since he's my kids (and wife's) favorite out of the 19 chicks.

The other 3 eggs quit around day 12-14, no idea why, as conditions remained optimal in the bator. (except one of the 3 eggs I did slightly crack when candling... butterfingers

He was peeping incessantly last night, my wife and I kept him inside our shirts almost an hour yesterday evening watching TV trying to calm him down. He was eating and drinking just fine, but still lacked coordination and had a very difficult time walking. I'm beginning to suspect he may have had larger problems keeping him from zipping the shell (he was one of the first to pip of the hatch, but last out of the egg). Not looking forward to the kids finding out he's gone.

The other chick I salvaged is just fine. Other than the funny hairdo

The 17 others that hatched on their own are all great. Except the EE chicks are a little larger and more agressive than some of the others.

Here's my 3 yr old with one of the silkies...

The roos will have a straight line of feathers all even hens will have two layers staggered its really easy and has worked for me really well. Sorry I didn't reply earlier but I have been so busy trying to get everything ready for school to start back. I do apologize. There is a video of a girl showing how to do it on youtube If you want to go check it out. I just set some more eggs last night the 8th so when they hatch I will take pictures of their wings to show you how to do it. I did it on all the chicks I hatched with yalls hatches and had them seperated then when we built there new run and put them in they figured out a way to cross over so now they are to old to sex by the wings and I have no clue which are hens and which are my roos

I had two bb red bantams to hatch today I can't figure out if they are roos or hens they are just to small for me to feel 100% positive on. Hope all the chickies are doing good
