Toilet paper tube, great idea! I was trying to find a box to cut the right sized hole in for my 7 day candling on Saturday. I'll try that instead.
Squeeze the circle end of the tiolet paper tube into an oval and the egg sits very well; do be sure to hold it with your hand/fingers to secure it, It will fall off if not secured. I was terrified one would fall!
I only candled a few each time to reducing the dropsy accidents; I candle everyone at day 18 for the chicks. or 25 for turkeys.

I'm going to candle tomorrow and give it a try. It might be too big to hold a silkie egg. I may end up going back with cutting a hole in a box. I'm very nervous to candle tomorrow and see what I find! It'll be Day 6. Then I plan to candle again at Day 12 and 18 before lockdown.

Yep, me too. I'm just trying to figure out a cardboard contraption to put the light under and the egg on. I prefer not to hold both with my hands, I don't have a very steady hand and it's just asking for trouble.

Well, why don't you get a piece of foil and thin cardboard and cut a hole in the middle and put it over the top of your flashlight? Makes it sooo much easier! I hold my duck eggs with one hand and the flashlight w/the other. I have shakey hands too, and havent dropped a egg yet. Also I candle from the airsack.
