I have read and noticed this in my own eggs, that the shells of each egg determine how they loose or keep moisture. If the egg shell is thin and porous then it looses more moisture and if it is thick and hard it will loose less moisture. I know that most of the chicks I have lost in the past have been because my humidity was off. Now with the auto humidity control I get much better hatches. There are so many variables. Another common killer of chicks during different stages of incubation is bacteria. Keep trying different things and I am sure you will figure out what works best for you.

Yes I can see that it is "thrilling" and why it is so addicting!!!

YES, I am going to be doing more soon too!!! Hopefully you won't need to babysit me so much on the second batch...

I have 1/2 English Orps BBS from my own chickens but I just acquired them so I don't know about the fertility, pureness and thought I would try a hatch and sell any extra chicks I don't want to keep.

Does it get hard to sell chicks going into fall? I am guessing yes but I suppose it depends if others in the area want what you hatch as well. I can also keep extra's for table birds if there are not takers for chicks..but I would prefer to sell them of course.

What are hatching next?

I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!! I think I just heard a cheep as well!!! I was like, what is THAT noise? Then realized it came from INSIDE the bator!!!!

I have lots of wiggling going on still but no pips yet, humidity keeps dropping a bit (from 70% down to 65%) so I keep adding water to bring it back up but I seem to be able to keep it between 65 -70 now so I am hoping it will work!!

The day off and chicks hatching, life doesn't get any better does it?

Sure hope it doesn't mess up their chances for a good hatch!

I have two outlets for my culls if they don't sell. The poultry auction that is the first Sunday of each month and one of our feed stores takes my unwanted roosters.

Here are my babies..

Here is my two babies that were shrink wrapped...I think they are looking much better after a couple of washes and gentle rubs...I didn't do their heads cause i didn't want to hurt them.
