Low humidity causes small chicks. I believe that with the dry hatch method the humidity should start at 40% them let it drop to 28% before adding more water to bring it back up to 40% and repeat. Are you sure your hygrometer is accurate? That is where I went wrong. Now I always do the salt test on my hygrometer before each incubation. Incubating chicks is a trial and error sort of thing. I finally got the Octagon 20 advance ex incubator with the humidity control and it pretty much is set and forget

I still loose chicks due to the eggs getting messed up during shipping, but get a 99% hatch with my own eggs. Good luck!

It did start off at 40 then settled to around 30-32. If its low humidity why would there be so much liquid in the egg and such a small air cell? Its almost like the air cell didn't grow after 7or8 days. I run three hygrometers all of which I salt tested prior.

Chickee...I got my eggs from 'Rockinpaints' on here...she has awesome eggs...this is my second lot from her...the last 12 i got from her I had 100% hatch...and that is shipped eggs from Ohio to GA...her birds are beautiful also...

can I just say that I am SOOOOOOO excited to have two splash ameraucanas in this hatch....

and one more just hatched and ive got lots of peeps and its only day 20

WOW!!! That is too funny...Nellie's eggs are great and are very hardy and fertile...out of the 4 that didn't hatch..1 was porous and didn't develop, 1 was my fault (shrink wrapped) and two didn't pip...I don't know why? Please let me know what colors you get...

lol...I have to get off here...you guys are killing me...I am soooo excited for everyone and want so badly to go home but I am stuck being tortured at work!

i am bursting out of my skin that everyone is hatching...

and don't worry Melissa...those ameraucanas will hatch!
