What is she? I see a top knot and beard like a silkie, but it doesn't have black skin..... She's very cute. I am intrigued. My aunt gave me eight duck eggs that her duck has been on for about a week today, to help make up for all the eggs I lost. Down to three Welsh Harlequin eggs today, officially. One of the eggs from my polish girl is really taking off - the others I'm iffy on. The silkie eggs are looking good, with maybe one not developing but it's hard to tell. We'll see how that goes. And:

I didn't hatch her - I just figured that this thread could use more cute chick pictures while we wait for our hatches. She came in the mail today with these guys:

I only kept her and a leghorn. Everyone else was slated for a different home. Gotta love splitting hatchery orders!
just a heads up but here in UK "top knot" is considered a racist word better to use "crown" or "Crest"What is she? I see a top knot and beard like a silkie, but it doesn't have black skin..... She's very cute. I am intrigued.
Sorry for your loss!! That does suck. Hopefully your next batch will turn out better! What kind of a thermostat do you have in your incubator?Well, I ordered more eggs from Metzer. They should be here by Friday, and they'll go in on Saturday. I'll be two weeks behind with these eggs but what can I do? I might have one still alive from the first batch, but probably not. I'm really devastated over here and I'm just so glad I had my silkie sitting on most of the silkie eggs. I think one of the ones I had in the incubator was bad anyway, so I really only lost three there. Plus I can scavenge up some of my polish girl's eggs and set those with the duck eggs, so I guess it's not a total loss. I'll just be behind where I was. The new duck eggs cost me over $70, though. Probably because I learned my lesson and ordered a full 20 this time. I'm also borrowing a 'real' incubator to put them in, instead of my homemade one. I don't feel particularly trusting of it right now...
dont give upIt's one that has a probe and is used to maintain very exact temperatures in a reptile habitat. I have no idea what happened. It was working perfectly. I turned the bulb off immediately after the spike to try to salvage the eggs - pretty sure I failed - and when I turned it back on the thing worked perfectly again. Not sure if I want to use the Little Giant I now have and try to rig a fan up in there or if I just want to stick with my homemade one. It may have just been my error - I forgot to check the temp after turning the eggs last night and I may have bumped the probe into a location that caused it to read lower than the actual temperature. I woke up and the incubator was wayyyy too hot. Now that I fiddled with everything, it's perfect again. I really just don't know![]()
What would you guys do? f I lose another batch of eggs and am out $70 on top of the other money I lost, I might just give up.
