Setting duck eggs on Saturday, 8/18 - Anyone wanna join? (Set by next Saturday for chicken eggs)

I candled and I have movement in two duck eggs, and one of the silkie eggs I was holding out hope for moved too! The other still has veins, so I'm not giving up on it either. So it appears I have three eggs left after my incubator problem, and maybe four. They'll be going in the new incubator as soon as I get it stabilized.

Red, sorry about the RIR. What breed are the farmer's market eggs, or do you not know?

I have no ideal on the breed. I have one very large white egg. 2 large light brown eggs and one egg its not brown but its not white either so this should be fun. Glad to hear you still have a few that made it!!

Is it almost pinkish? If so you might have a little easter egger in there And with the white egg too, you might get some variation in your egg basket, which is always fun. I get all kinds of colors, but the really pretty light blue has to be my favorite. Just caught the darn homemade incubator trying to creep back up on me - caught it at 101 this time, which shouldn't have caused any damage so at least I caught it in time.

Are conditions in the house and the room where it is located changing /fluctuating ? I found my home made incubators to be very sensitive to temp changes in my house. It seemed to go up a couple of degrees for each change in my house. I hatched best with mine in winter when the house stayed a cooler temp constantly, but as spring approached and my house temps were less consistent I had a lot more trouble. I had Styrofoam homemade and my Hovabator is foam also, and I keep a towel or a flannel baby blanket tossed over it to prevent drafts. It keeps mine more stable. Could you turn down the thermostat target temp and then insulate it a bit more by covering it with something? Good luck figuring it out.

No, it's not the room. It just snuck back up to 114 on me again. But I'm hoping if they made it once, they'll have survived this one and I'll candle later tonight to see. This time it couldn't have been like that for longer than two hours, so here's hoping. It's like the thermostat is 'forgetting' to turn the light off. Really the thermostat is the problem - it just doesn't click the light off. I think it needs a break after running for so long. Luckily my LG appears to be stabilizing, so hopefully they'll go in either tonight, or tomorrow with the 20 new duck eggs that arrived today.

My hum. rised on me today although I didn't it to myself. I filled 4 of the contaners instead of just 3 and when I came home at lunch it was at 62%

. Hope I didn't screw them up.

As I was leaving for work tonight (I just got here) one of my three quail eggs hatched I put some more eggs in lockdow tonight before I left they are set to hatch Monday I will post pick next weekend

Got lucky last night. We lost power for 4 hrs due to what's left of Isaac. Thank goodness I wasn't asleep yet and I had my power inverter and a battery!!

@morgan CONGRATS!!

@Pyxis that one egg is a very light pink or cream. All I know is you can't buy that color egg in the store!

Woo! Congrats on the hatch! And Red, enjoy your pretty eggs Everyone around here is always so startled when I sell them blue and green eggs. I've actually been asked before if I dyed them. My new duck eggs are gonna go in tonight! I got the LG into a range where it wouldn't kill the eggs, between 98 and 100.8, so the 'old' eggs went in last night because I caught the homemade incubator at 112 about an hour after I candled the eggs to make sure the second time of hitting 114 didn't kill them So I gave the thermostat a good whack and it turned the light off. Needless to say, that was final straw so I put them in the LG because even though the temperature wasn't ideal, it certainly wouldn't kill them.

On the bright side, I only have 12 days left till silkie chicks! And 14 till the two ducklings from the first batch of eggs hatch.
