Setting duck eggs on Saturday, 8/18 - Anyone wanna join? (Set by next Saturday for chicken eggs)

Hmm, do you think if I posted a picture here of the egg you could tell me what's going on with them possibly? No temp spikes that I know of, but since I'm not home during the day I have someone else do the midday turning and yesterday he forgot to do it. Could that have killed them? They went 14 hours with a turn...

Here's two pictures of one of the eggs in question. The others look pretty much the same:

Not the best pictures but you get the gist of it. No veins, looking pretty yellow, just that one little blob...

I just candled mine again and one of the Wellsummer eggs has nothing going on

so I pitched it tonight. I cracked it open and it just looked like a egg but the yoke was broke not sure why that is. Hopefully thats the last one I lose! @ Pyxis I hope all works out. I know I would keep them for awhile till I was sure no more growth was going on.

Sorry you lost one :( I have two that are pretty much for sure not fertile. Tomorrow they get tossed if nothing is still going on. Everyone else is getting a few more days to a week before I toss them.

So went to the framers market this morning

. Love going to the farmers market. Any way somebody was there selling fresh eggs and I get to talking to this young lady and she has a mixed flock and she starts to show me pictures of her hens then all of a sudden I see a picture of the Roo running with the hens. I wonder if they are fertile? Do I really need to incubate more eggs? I read the post about Trader Joes so part of me wants to throw a couple of eggs in the incubator and see whats happens..............

I just found a really fresh egg from my polish girl this morning (darn birds have been laying everywhere BUT the coop and I can only find an egg once in a while) So I said, hmmm....needless to say I tossed it in the bator to see what happens! My roo is fairly young so I'm not sure if he's 'getting the job done,' but we'll see. It'd be nice to hatch one from my own birds. If it's fertile, the chick will be really wacky too :p A polish crossed with a light brahma? It'll look so odd when it's older, lol.

I have a few hatch dates I have some quail eggs set to hatch on 8/31 all my quail are cornix quail. I have some chicken eggs (Barn yard mix) and some quail eggs set to hatch 9/4 and more chicken eggs set to hatch 9/6 and the last of my quail set to hatch on 9/9 I havent candled yet I am going to do that Monday I cant post pics or reply on my progress until the weekend I am wishing all of you the best of luck with your hatches

I just have to share these pictures with you all. This was the funniest thing I ever saw!! I had found a pip in the incubator last night in the eggs I expected to hatch first from the big broody batch. Well, when I went to check on it this morning I found this in the egg turner.

I expected this egg to hatch second, not first!

I thought it was a couple of days behind. So I went down and checked under my broody, she had one chick hatched and another pip, so I put this baby and the pipped eggs from the incubator under her. Once she is ready to leave the nest I will bring any eggs that haven't hatched under her up to the incubator to go with her other eggs that were several days behind. This evening she had 3 chicks hatched and a couple more visible pips.

I don't think that missing one turn would have done it, I think it has been dead for more than a day, due to the absence of veins. I suspect what you see is a blood spot, not the eye, and that the chick died around day 4. I doubt it was anything you did, just consider it an early miscarriage. Sad but a part of life.
