Setting duck eggs on Saturday, 8/18 - Anyone wanna join? (Set by next Saturday for chicken eggs)

I set 50 Jumbo Pharaoh Corturnix Quail and 50 Jumbo A&M Corturnix Quail on August 18th. The eggs were shipped. I candled them on Saturday and removed a little more than a dozen. There are some others that are iffy that I will remove before lock down on Sept. 1st. They are due to hatch on Sept. 3rd or 4th.

So I'm candling the eggs....I know I candle every night but only half of them so I'm candling every other day really........and my wife comes in cracking up and I'm like what. She says to me your sitting there looking at the chicks while you stuff your face with pickled eggs. Guess she had a point.

LOL, that's funny. I just finished candling mine and then went and ate a couple hard boiled eggs from my girls :) I have development in my polish girl's eggs! I guess I might have a few chicks from my own birds. The three duck eggs I still have going are looking good. I watched one little embryo move around today - very cool.

Ya the embryos in mine are really moving around and they are starting to fill that egg yup.

I still have 18 out of 19 in the bator. One is really porous so cant see anything in that one,,, but I think I can see the shadow of some veins in it. I really hope I get a good hatch this time!! I have had something go wrong the last week in every hatch so far and end up loosing half my eggs. These I have to get atleast four hens for the neighbor I got the eggs from. Hoping for a few left for me too.

Silverfox, that's great! Where did you get your eggs, did they come from your own flock? I find it so much more satisfying to hatch my own eggs.

My postal service is very hard on eggs, I am usually lucky to have a hatch rate of 40%.

This time I am hoping for 50%, it is still possible. I lost two more though, the veins disappeared, so I am down to 13 out of 24.

Oh, the chick that hatched is a blue Ameraucana. The hen is a blue Ameraucana and she hatched both purebred Ameraucana and Leghorn X Ameraucana babies. I have three more eggs in the incubator which should hatch by the end of the week. Seven out of 8 hatched. One died after zipping most of the way. I am not sure what happened there.

The hen sure is being a good momma though. She stayed with her eggs and chicks even after I moved her before the last two eggs hatched. She was in a nest box a couple of feet off the ground, I moved her to the floor because I was afraid the livelier chicks would fall out of the nest box before she was ready to leave it. I will try and get pictures of them tomorrow when they are out and about.
thanks

yes they are my own eggs

a Pure Bred Cream Legbar DAD crossed with a few Hybrids and White Leghorn MUMS

i have already hatched Six chicks 2 weeks ago and they are sex linked which is great (Except the Leghorn ones)

they will make the UKs Famous Cotwold Legbar breed olso known as Fentons

one more thing to add i wanted to set 12 eggs from my hybrids and 12 from my leghorns but could only collect 23 eggs over 2 days and didnt want to go over to the 3rd day just for 1 egg
so i grabbed one from the fridge from a few days previous and even that is developing

btw my fridge is digital and is set to 2 deg celius

Well I got a couple of pics of my broody and her chicks today, but most of the chicks were hiding under her. There are two black, one blue, one splash, and three white leg horn cross babies ( who are super cute). I got close ups of one of the leghorn X babies that hatched in the house today.

I hope I got some pullets from the cross, I want to keep them as layers.

Here's my sweet momma and a couple of the peeps. The blue is the one that had it's leg sticking out of the shell when I found it Saturday.

Next is a picture of the Leghorn X baby from today. They all seem to have the muffs and beard of the Ameraucana and white skin without any slate showing up. I wonder if it will show up later.

I am half way there on my shipped cochin eggs. Day 11 and counting! I can't wait to see the new cochin chicks!

My aunt gave me eight duck eggs that her duck has been on for about a week today, to help make up for all the eggs I lost. Down to three Welsh Harlequin eggs today, officially. One of the eggs from my polish girl is really taking off - the others I'm iffy on. The silkie eggs are looking good, with maybe one not developing but it's hard to tell. We'll see how that goes. I didn't hatch her - I just figured that this thread could use more cute chick pictures while we wait for our hatches. She came in the mail today with these guys:

I only kept her and a leghorn. Everyone else was slated for a different home. Gotta love splitting hatchery orders!
