Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

So how did everyone's candling go? I took pictures, but I need to wait until my phone's battery charges before I can put them on the computer. >_< As I suspected, the Japanese bantams are infertile. They are showing no signs of life. :( The other four are doing marvelous though. I took a video of one of the seramas! It's not the easiest thing to see, but you can see veining and the embryo at some times.
Great news here, too! Lots of tiny chicks floating around! Can't wait to see your pics and video.

Infertile Japanese egg. I know there is a lethal gene in japanese bantams, but I thought any affected chicks died before hatching? They would have to be developed some I would assume...

One of my seramas! I played around in the photobucket editor to make the veins and the embryo pop out a little more...

The video will be up tomorrow. It's taking forever to upload. >_< Also; cell phone flashlights woooooo!

How do you guys do your photos? Mine turn out a blurry mess.. At least four clear rocking and rolling embryos the dark marans are impossible to see through with my candler but look promising.. :) Will try to sit on hands till day 18 but at least was able to pull out 5 definite clears..

I used to use a camera with a slow shutter speed. Seemed to help with the blurry-ness. But I just took the above pictures with my phone.

I feel like such a novice! But... I guess that's because I am :). There are some signs of life in each set of eggs (Welsummer, blue copper Marans and black copper Marans), but there are several of them that I just can't tell what's in there, if anything! So, I left them all in for now. If any are infertile or early death, is it safe to. Leave them in until they start to smell? Or would they possibly explode without smelling first?

Congrats to everybody with developing chicks!

I havnt had any explode on me before. I would leave them in there for maybe another week then check again. If still clear no sign of life then i would take them out and what i do is crack them open to see if there was a embro and see how far they did get. I would do this outside of the house tho just in case.

I have started my first ever attempt to hatch chicks on January 23rd (Day 4!). If all goes well I will have true love birds! (Due to hatch February 14th <3) All looks to be good so far. I am trying to get some olive eggers so I have crossed my light green egg laying easter egger with a marans rooster. I have 3 eggs going and all three show growth. It's so exciting.

Day 7 for me and just candled all 25 eggs. 3 are showing clear as of right now. So if I can do math right that is 22 good eggs with veining. Also see a bunch of them with movement.

Ok so took your advice and got the following picture plus a video... :) I'm excited in that I not only have movement.. BUT tomorrow I'm picking up some 2 week old blue marans, aracuna, and a maran xross.. :)

Air cell is looking nice on day eight of incubation! Keeping my humidity level in the 40's
