Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

Calico roo in project pen

Blue hen in project pen..

Ok I will join in I have a sportsman full of eggs at the moment, expecting eggs over the next 3 weekends as I have been setting eggs once a week for the last month or two.
I am expecting mostly silkies from 3 pens, and some Black tail white Japs. 14 eggs if memory serves, couple of pens are young hens and studs so these will be the first prodigy from them (very excited!)
I have 2 show white lines, and a project pen with a calico roo (looks like a birchan with brown leakage) with a splash and blue hen. Not sure what I will be getting in terms of coulor with this trio, the birds are pretty nice type so should be super cute babies!

Look forward to hatching with everyone!

Beautiful Silkies! I used to have 6 silkies, now I have one silkie rooster :(

OK, I have a silly "newbie" question... when it comes time for lockdown, do you ever move your eggs to a different incubator? Or is it OK to leave "not ready" eggs in during lockdown? I have some eggs that I added to my 'bator a week after our original set date. I have a second incubator (LG), but it has more variability in the temp. I was thinking of moving my "later set" of eggs to the LG when the first set goes into lockdown, and then probably move them back after the first round finish hatching (depending on how many days that takes). Any thoughts or suggestions? Stop adding eggs to the bator?

If you have a incubator that tilts the eggs then yes, you have to. But if they are in a incubator that just turns them and they can get out fine, without falling off anything, or getting stuck, then yes, you can leave them. Hope I helped :)

Good morning! First time hatcher here!!

Day 14 of hatching shipped Silkie eggs. PA to CA! The 9 eggs left out of the original 14 are doing great! 5 of the nine have large to very large saddle air cells.

Finally calibrated my hygrometer and found that it was running 5% high. Should be ok...I was keeping it between 40 and 50 anyway. I'm so excited and nervous for hatch day. Btw I know I need a brooder all set up (done that before) but what else do I need to get together for during and right after hatch? Including things I may need for sickly chicks or if I have to assist? Thanks for any info and good luck to all!!

RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

Well I have some very terrible news to tell everyone before i read back and catch up on post. Wife was gone all day yesterday and I was at work Well my wife got home around 8pm and the house was a complete disaster. Our dogs tore up our house!! All my eggs are gone that was in the incubator shells all over the floor. My computer chair is tore apart flower pots tore apart, kitty litter all over the place. Curtains were knocked down. My incubator was laying on ground blood and shells all over it. Lucky they some how unpluged the cord so it didnt catch fire. My incubator has yolk stains all over it now and stinks when plugged in. They have NEVER torn anything up before while we was gone. Dogs had yolk all over them. Needless to say NO more dogs are allowed in the house. I just realized they got into a basket of eggs like 20 or more that I had sitting on counter that i got from the hens yesterday. Im so

I am so sorry to hear this. :( could anything have startled your dogs? Maybe they were spooked or something... I am sure that your incubator will be okay... I would use bleach to clean it and then a wipe down with vinegar afterward to help with the smell. Maybe keep the incubator in a room that can shut out the other animals? I have to do that as my cats think it is their job to knock anything they can off of tables, bookshelves, etc.

Man that SUCKS!!! I had near miss the other day with my Shih-Tzu who wanted to see the chicks in the brooder so jumped and landed on top of the incubator. Luckily she's a lightweight. I hope your incubator is ok. :(

Ok here we are at day 13 for me.. eight eggs are going strong.. :) I think the air cells look ok for Day 14 but it's hard to tell. I've adjusted the light on this photo to show it better.. lock down on Wednesday.. if all hatch I'll be drowning in chicks.. lol

I got my batches mixed up eggs that I set on the 19th are numbered 26! Same Silkie pens some btw japs and a niegbour has some sizzles in there too. But I do have 14 eggs due now :) some chirping and one pip so far.
