I just had to try one more time. I hope to have my own eggs to hatch in the next few months. I got some more cochin eggs and some bonus silkie eggs. Putting them in this morning.

I just bought a cheap incubator from the farm store and have it up and running. I hope to put some eggs in it today!!!!!!! My first time hatching, OMG I hope I get a couple chicks out of the dozen or so that I plan to set!!!!!!!!!! My chickens have always been pets and in the past I've let the mom do all the work, but my kids are just begging to watch an egg hatch. They are 5,4 and 1. The older two are so eggcited! LOL The only problem is the temps are varying between 97.5 on the left side and 100.5 on the right side. I hoped to get things a little more consistent before sticking the eggs in. Oh wellll, I could just stick the eggs in the middle and then they would be a happy medium!

Good luck, This is my second time, Hatched 6 out of 12 shipped eggs last week. The first week goes very slow picking up speed in the second week and bang! they are hatching. I hope the kids get to see them hatch. I missed all but the last of mine. They hatched while I was at work and my DH got to have all the fun.

Temps in my homemade bator varied from 97 to 101. I have a fan installed so it kept the air circulating and I made a turner that I could move from the outside. It was modeled after the Gopher bator on the this website.

I have BBS Marans, Buff Orp x White Leghorn, Buff Orp x RIR, Coturnix and Button quails all in the incubator right now. all will hatch right after thanksgiving!

I am waiting for my eggs to arrive that are being shipped to me. My bator is warmed up and looking like a lonely broody missing her eggs

The track number from the post office says my eggs should arrive this Monday, 11-15-2010. So mine will be December chicks.

I've found it very hard to regulate an empty incubator. Theres all that air that fluctuates the temp. It changes when you add the eggs. I use the first day, with the eggs in, it to regulate it. Plus you have to get the eggs up to temp. Once everything stabalizes I count the next day as day one. Hope this helps.

PS I set 24 eggs on 11/7

my bator has spikes and dips between 98 and 101 when it cycles thats with 3 thermometers. one is the little glass one that came with it. that one seems to be the most jumpy my two digitals generally stay within 1 degree of each other @ 99-100. ... Alright I just finished turning my eggs ... wow it takes so long with 20. I'm so thinking of making some turning racks so I can do it quicker. Question: How often should I turn my eggs? Should I have a strict schedule like every 8 hours or can i fudge a bit like 6hrs , 9 hrs, 7hrs, etc?
