Setting Eggs 12/28 - Hatching Buddies? Hatch-Along

Today is day 10 for me! Almost, nearly, not-quite halfway there!

I know, me too! I gave a friend's son a dozen of my eggs to hatch for a science project and they hatched last night. The pictures of the babies are so cute, and I'm dying to get more details on which ones hatched and exactly how many and what they look like. My eggs all came from the Cream Legbar mom, but I'm not sure who fathered the chicks. They roosters are so dramatically different that it'll be a piece of cake to know, so I'm trying to not look like the crazy chicken lady I am. He posted two pictures on my facebook wall and I'm trying to wait patiently for more details.


I had trouble with my nipple waterer in the brooder, and I ended up going out and buying a hamster watering thing. That came with a metal hook sort of thing. For the first couple weeks, I put my chicks in an aquarium, so looping it over the top was easy. After that, I go to a big tote. Then, it seemed like I had to do some MacGuyvering to make it work, but I don't remember what anymore. I hated how they were always kicking shavings into their water. It took some working with the chicks to get them to get the hang of it though. I'm not sure if all brands work that way. I know mine did. I'd almost bought my nipples from a place on amazon, but a couple of the reviewers were unhappy with them, so I went to cconly instead, and they've seemed to work out fine. I can't find any pictures of my brooder set up. That's most likely because I usually leave a webcam up from the first pip up til the chicks are a week old.

getting closer... lol how is everyone fairing? I'm bummed cause iI ordered eggs before Christmas and still haven't gotten them. said it shipped so iI seriously doubt iI will get any good ones... and they were lavender orps... erg. on a good note the cochins eggs iI got look good. I'm gonna try to do another count tonight and throw out any duds.

Eggorthechicken, if they were shipped before Christmas, I seriously doubt any will be good now. In fact, I have to admit I'd be a little shocked if the package even makes it to you. Do you feel like the seller was reliable?


I candled my eggs today,and all seven look great.

I put 10 lav orp eggs in the hatcher this morning and now i am just staring holes in them, waiting for pips!!

my showgirl eggs go in the hatcher in 2 days!!!

I also have a set of eggs missing that were shipped the day after Christmas. Never showed up. I had 4 sets of eggs mailed to me that day. Got one in two days, one in five days, and the other on the eighth day. Last set must have become someone's breakfast...

And complaining to the USPS 1800 number definitely didn't help.
