Setting Eggs 12/28 - Hatching Buddies? Hatch-Along

Neurological problems is what I have been told. She is fine otherwise. I got her from someone after she was grown

Checked the 6 eggs that made it to lockdown at 6:00. Checked again at 7:30 and I have a pip. It's one of the eggs I wasn't sure about. I think the one next to it is rocking, could have been me shaking though.

Second pip, since they weren't due till tomorrow at least they have each other for encouragement.

No pips for me yet, not due till Sunday night/Monday. Just weighed everyone again and 1/2 have lost 11% and the rest I'm still rooting for. Humidity is LOW at like, 10-15% and temp is 100. Hoping to squeeze out a little more water before they pip internally. It'll be a close one!

It looks like the eggs that are heavy are from my 2.5 year old hens, so I think the shells are just really thick. They were the hardest to see into so I suspect that's the case.

I think you're probably right, hokankai- I think the thicker, less porous shells make it tougher to lose water. Hopefully everything goes smoothly for your hatch.

I'm getting a kick out the mental image I have for a chicken walking backwards. I've never seen that.

It's kind of sad sometimes, because she doesn't seem to have much control over it. It's like she gets stuck in reverse! I can try to take a video one day, if you're curious.

Ugh I have SO much do to today cleaning out coops but it is SO DANG COLD. I'm hoping it warms up to the expected 48 before too long because I need to distract myself! Haha

I just put two duck eggs in the incubator. I hope they hatch. This is my first attempt to hatch duck eggs bc my ducks just started laying. Hopefully they are fertile!

10 degrees here at 10am. Was down to -5F last night. Duccles and coturnix all fared well. I think these banties are tougher than given credit for. Belgium is cold. Right?
