Hey DraigAthar, I just checked out your website and read that you're an MT! I just graduated in CLS and am looking for MT jobs here in the Northwest right now. I'm scheduled to take the ASCP exam Feb. 25th.

Nice! It's a great job, IMO. Good luck on your exam. I work in heme, have you got a favorite dept or do you want to be a generalist?

Micro has always been my favorite, followed by heme. I was told by everyone during my internship that I should start out as a generalist for the first 5 years just to keep everything fresh. If I had my way I'd do micro all the time though

Eh, people always say that. I worked as a generalist for a whopping 7 months before a heme specialist position opened up at DHMC. I jumped on it, never looked back. I love my department, and 7 months as a generalist DID teach me heaps. But 5 years? If you know what you love, just go for it.

well I worked evenings in heme for about a year but hard when you have kids and wanna see them so I opted for nights instead. nights are pretty decent actually compared to the other shifts so I don't complain.

I think we like chickens cause we are inside in the lab so long that it's nice being outside and chickens are a zen hobby for me... they bring me peace and simplicity to otherwise hectic daily life.

Well we should create a techs and chickens thread... lol

oh yeah absolutely evenings are ok then and really it wasn't bad but I just missed my kiddos during the school year... now I get up and still have the afternoon and evening free so it works out pretty good.

Just sold the babies tonight and I CRIED. Oh my goodness, haha I'm such a wuss! I think it was because they were my first incubator babies AND they were from my own flock so I was pretty attached.

Hopefully the next batch will be easier
