Setting eggs 1st day of spring..who's with me?

Nothing yet! But its just now the end of day 19 for me - so that is OK. My last batch pipped on day 19 so I was thinking this one would too. But who knows. I'll keep an eye on them for tomorrow & Friday!

Hello KC,
I have cheese cloth lining the bottom of my incubator too. The woman I got the eggs from suggested it. She had a hatch going with one chic out and it did not appear to be having problems with cheeseclorh in her bator.

Guess we'll get to see how they do!

Good luck:frow

Hi all,

I set 15 BBS Rocks 9 pm the 21st. Shipped eggs from Halo.

Have two small Maglites and they just did'nt cut it looking into the speckled/pourous eggs so missed out on the early development. Set up my construction halide lamp with a corona case box over it and hole cut out the top. Worked wonders! Day 11 had 11 developing 2 doubtful, 1 I tossed and 1 still too pourous to see into well. The girls that live here were not too keen on the tossed egg so took it from the trash figuring I'd recheck those 4 and toss it on day 14. To my utter surprise it was developing. Goes to show you should hold onto the eggs as long as possible.

Tonight at 9 pm is start of day 18 so will be candling all again then adding water for lockdown. Wondering how many eggs will stay in...after the trash can experience, and my lack of, may just be all of em.

Don't worry Egghead, I am sure you and your eggs will do just fine.

Just remember that sometimes shipped eggs don't hatch even after developing, I have been learning with shipped eggs also, and it is very frustrating at times.

Just don't be hard on yourself for things beyond your control if your hatch rate is disappointing. I also have a very porous egg, I can't tell if it is developing or not I have almost thrown it out a couple of times,but.... I thought I MIGHT have seen a shadow move, soooo .....

Time will tell.

KZ, I had never heard of or thought about cheese cloth in the incubator. I will be interested to hear what you think of it. I have a mesh shelf liner lining my incubator, the waffle pattern lets the air still flow, and gives them a soft grippy surface.

I hate lockdown, nothing to do but wait, and I'm not very good at that!
