Setting eggs 6/11 and 7/4 - Join me!

Lakebird, sorry to here that. I lost one a few weeks ago. I dropped it moving it to lock down. I felt awful :(

I just moved 9 Easter Egger and 9 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes into lock down.

In a few days I will be locking down the Marans. Then a few days later the Swedish flower hens.
It' s going to be so exciting to watch a these new baby's hatch. Molly :D

I lost an egg tonight because of clumsiness

So sad. :(

Thank you! The guilt is subsiding.

I was wondering how much do you handle newborn chicks. I got my first chicks in April from a local farm, at few days old. They are just as friendly as can be. The ones I hatched about 2 week old ago seems to be scared of everything. They aren't as friendly as my first chicks. All orpingtons. Do you think I am not handling the chicks enough?

Do you think I am not handling the chicks enough?

In my opinion you can rarely ever handle/play with them too much! As long as they are not getting hungry/thirsty or cold, then handle away with them! I play with mine as much as possible when they hatch, spend as much time as I can with them (but the peafowl and quail are way more flighty than chickens, so I like giving them as much of an imprint as possible)

So 3 of my 5 eggs have started to pip!!!! This is the hardest part with eggs I think. Just waiting to see the cute little thing and knowing you have to wait.....I think the next incubator I build I'm putting a small mirror in it. That way I can see all of the egg. I hate when I can't see the other side of them....

This is brilliant!! Why haven't I thought of this yet.... and if it was just a mirror (just the stone, no ornament), it would also aid in maintaining level temps actually, since it would hold heat if the bator shuts off. I think I'll do this as well!

What about a shaving mirror meant for the shower? That wouldn't fog up if the incubator humidity is high.

I HAVE A CHICKIE BABY!!!!
