setting eggs 6/27/12! Hatch-a-long? CHART included

Do like the sock thing.... good idea. Has your Mom given you advice you can pass on since she has hatched eggs?Mine is a Hovabator styrafoam with the fan and turner( even so didnt help save mine last time also shipped but dont know if that was the problem so ordered more and here i go again with aq few changes. !
Some one said on BYC that they put their bator in a closet so this time i tried it
Suprisingly it HAS Stablized my temp a LOT .Didnt think it would make that much difference as i didnt have it in a draft that i knew of. Also ihave well water for the humidity since it goes into the egg.Decided it could cause a problem ..bacteria high iron could possible hurt my eggs as birds are more sensitive to things than humans and dogs etc. are so forming chicks worse i would assume .... so using distilled water this time. Will see if either helps.
Oh and tryng 30 humidity, read on here a LOt of ppl have had excellent hatches with lower humidity more eggs hatch.A BYC friend had 13 of 16 of her last shipped eggs hatch using this idea.(See leanring center "dry hatch" )

I got the sock idea here on BYC, of course LOL. I have learned a ton from reading here, and still learning more each day! I wish I could ask my Mom, she passed away in 2006 (cancer sucks). I am having an issue with stable temps also, even though I have read the old Browers are supposed to be rock solid on temps, but I think I need to replace the wafer. Also, I have it in our dining room which is the least drafty room in the house but it does get some sunshine (I have a curtain over half the window to keep it from shining on the bator).

I am drooling on some of the Brinsea incubators but I am sure they are pretty spendy. I don't know yet LOL, I am saving my opinion of the whole incubating thing. I know that it would be alot less hassle if I didn't have to turn them.

so sorry to hear that mine is an LG still air with turner.  and i love it!!  it is actually a woman that i work with but she wanted chicks and i want to try hatching eggs so she has let me use it the last 4 months.  really think i'm going to have to buy my own.

what's went on with your shipping??  i always let my eggs sit at least 24 hours, pointy side down in an egg carton, even when i only get them from my grandpa's about 3 miles down the road.

Out of 9 eggs only one was fertile and it had a floating air sac and didn't hatch. My temps were stable at 99.5 and my humidity at 35 so either they weren't fertile or got scrambled in the mail which is most likely what occurred. Now I have 19 eggs hoping for a better hatch...the only thing the eggs I got in the mail today two were cracked so these might have gotten pretty scrambled too I have them sitting pointed side down all day and will put them in the incubator tomorrow.

hoping for the best for you. what is a detached air sac? i have not seen one when i candled, of course i don't know what one is either!!

If you were asking me I have an LG still air that belongs to my son it is stable at 40% humidity and 100 degrees at the top of the eggs I am trying the dry hatch method I have white polish, RIR crossed with a red star 3 of them for my daughter, 6 buff OP, and the rest are just mixed eggs from my own LF, all came from my own eggs except the 3 for my daughter. I will be turning them my self no turner.I do lose temp a bit when I lift lid to turn and humidity goes up it has been very rainy here for 3 weeks. but it restablizes within a half hour. Do you think 40 % is too high? No egg in there is more than a week old.I do have a window about 7 feet away should I cover it? There is no direct sunlight that hits the bator. My son has done two hatches this spring but this is my first attempt at my house in about 30 years so am hoping to do as well as he did. I am still reading reading reading .I have seen beginning humidity from 20 to 50% so am not sure about that and temps from 98 to 101 so opted for 100 as a median. I have not candled but will on day 7 to see what I have.so will give you the count after I have candled.the first time. I just did a hatch under a broody silky of her own and her friends eggs got 11 out of 16 and I messed up those 5 eggs by assuming mom had pushed them out of nest in retrospect I think they were out because our weather at the time was hot and she had moved them to cool but I will know better next time. She will have full control of the eggs through day 25 as most hatched on day 21 but had 3 hatch day 23. Mama knew best All are healthy happy babies scurrying around catching bugs with their moms at a week old.

Can I join? Set my eggs under a broody on the 24th been checking up on her constantly!!! She's probably sick of seeing me! It's my first time hatching (and hers!) Iv got 3 polish, 3 sumatras and 2 silkies (already lost one that she accidently crushed) fingers crossed. When can you start candling? And is it definatly necessary, as she is a very aggressive broody and I even get my hand almost peaked off trying to feed her! So I don't want to necessarily go under her. Has anyone else got experience with broody hens?

Hi all this is my second attempt. i set my other the 3rd June and NONE hatched out of 18 :( I think it was down to the temp gauge as i put in another 2 and they showed it at 46 celcius not 37.5 so i think they got slowly cooked.
Anyway I now have 3 temp gauges and is set at 37-38 I have set 8 Light Sussex l/F and a bit of a pick and mix of 18 eggs, being Silver laced Wyandotte, Columbian pekins, chocolate orpingtons, Barred wyandotte, today I just hope things go well this time around was so dissapointing when NONE hatched. Good luck every one.
