My son(Deathdrag-new member) and I have just set 60 eggs in my homemade incubator that is really only made to hole 48 or so. He is doing a extra project for his Collage Ag econ class and also figuring out what it is costing me to hatch and raise the chickes to egg laying age. We are very sure there are going to be some none fertile eggs in the mix for we got them at the local auction. Will candle day 5 for infertile ones.

Today is day 1 of my incubation. I'm joining. I have in my bator 15 weathen ameraucana eggs and 7 EE's. I'm also doing a little experiment because I'm incubating a HUGE double yolker. It's a EE egg. so lets see....good luck with your hatch.

Its my first set and I'd love to join as well. I'm setting in forty five minutes. I've got two Australorpes, two Silkie, and two Barred Plymouth Rocks.

What an interesting project! I would love to follow along and hear the final results. I set 24 bantam cochin eggs, which had been shipped, yesterday. These are for my daughter's 4H project. I also joined another thread of people who were setting this week. Chatting about eggs makes the time go faster.

Day one went very well and got them turned three time. Turning 60 eggs by hand can be a pain, but as time goes there will be less eggs. My son did burn his self on the light bulb while turning, but it is how you learn not to touch it right. Tomorrow we are going to be out of town for part of the day so they might only get turned twice.

Not sure what I was thinking, as chicken math is really high at the moment, but set 76. 29 were lavender orpingtons, a few blue orphingtons and the rest are barn yard mix.

I'm excited I get to share the experience with you folks. I'm at day one headed into day two and I've lost one egg already. After five hours in the incubator it started oozing and as the time progressed, the spots it was oozing from increased. I was thinking of sending off for more eggs, just to get a better flock of chicks to pick from, because in my area I can only keep hens.

I have a tropical storm heading my way in Thursday. I im panicking I loose the power and i have eggs developing in the bator. If I lost the power I should run the electric generator maybe for the days I am out...Those eggs are REALLY EXPENSIVE!!!! I dont want to be a bad neighbor but I dont want to loose the eggs either. My neighbors are going to kill me!!! Thank god I'm not so near....I have also to secure a few things in the coop..
