Setting eggs in incubator May 3rd...Anyone with me?

The temp went up to 103 for a while after I put the eggs in. NI pulled out both plugs. Now it is 100. Do you suppose they will be ok?
Oh yeah, I'm sure they'll be fine. I've had temp spikes higher than that. We'll be able to candle in a few days to check anyway :)

Lots of people in on the hatch! Now we play the waiting game.

My momma hen went broody on Tuesday (the 30th) and I guess I'll join in with this hatchalong. This is the first broody I've ever had, so hopefully everything goes alright!
I was wondering how long the momma hen sits on her eggs after the first chick hatches and if anyone knows the answer, I'd love to hear. Also, does anyone know what blood rings are? Thanks so much! Hopefully this will be succesful!!

I'm at day 3 and couldn't resist candling three eggs just to see... And I saw tiny hearts beating in all three! I'm so glad it seems they are developing despites being shipped. Now, if they will hatch is of course a different story....

As for how long the hen stays on the nest after the first chick hatch, that's upto 48 hours I've heard. :)

I will probably be candling my eggs on Tuesday, as it is the one week mark. Hopefully I will see something!!

I hear you can make your own candler and there are many instructions on how to do so if you check youtube or just google it. Personally, I just get a bright flashlight and I stand in a dark room to candle them.

I hope to learn from you if you're successful! We've tried w/ three broody hens this year, had only one chick hatch, and she pushed it aside and let it die. So this is our fourth attempt now, with the same mom that sat on the first batch. So frustrating!

Quote: That's what I do to candle eggs...I have a very powerful flashlight and I wait until night and stand in my walk in closet with the light off and the flashlight on. I put the egg right up to the flashlight and let the light shine through the egg. A little trial and error and I figured out what I was looking at, lol.
