Setting eggs June 3rd. Need hatching buddies! Lets have some fun!

I locked down 5 silkie eggs tonight.... these aren't the eggs that I put in to hatch with all of you but thought I'd let ya know! We candled and have two or three pushing at the air cell membrane. No peeping yet, but as it's my second hatch........soooo exciting!

Yesterday, day 7 I candled my first ever eggs out of 9 there are two clear eggs, three have bubbly markings throughout and 4 have veins throughout. I am hoping for at least 3 will be happy with more if it goes that way. And my first chicks arrived yesterday. Out of 6 one was dead I do have to say the post office lost them so they arrived a day late the 5 remaining were pretty messed up. One has a bald head with matted fuzz around it I don't know if she will survive and one of the barred rock wobbles a lot. Fed them probotics they ate and drank right away so its a wait and see time for me.i

OK, who wants to come obsess over my bator while I'm gone for two days?? I'm really stressing out that something will happen while I'm gone. Any suggestions for ensuring all is well while I'm gone?

Howdy sweetie, i bought this little pen flashlight on ebay. It was suppose to be the brightest but not a good one. You cant see inside dark egga at all with it. Ive had better luck with a dollar flashlight and cup my hand around the flashlight as Im holding the egg with the same hand. Ive saw a real nice one and easy to build that is a floodlight that is installed in a plywood box. The light was installed in the bottom of the box and pointing up and there was a hole cut in the top to set the egg in. It also looked like it had one little roundpiece of wood attached with like alittle bolt with a hole under it in the box to slide over as a vent for heat release Im assuming. It looked like it would work great. I just havent had time to start on one yet but plan on it. I just wanted to warn you about the pen candling light on ebay cause it useless for the most part. It does a ok job for white eggs though.

I have three thermometer. All read something different.....But it seems to be running about 99 with 40 humid

So as for the flashlight for candleing. I tired looking them up online and found that Cutter supply seemed to have the best price. But it plugged into the wall as did most which i didn't really like. I also saw a fiber optic flashlight that you didn't need to move the eggs to use. It was way overpriced. None spoke of how many lumens they were.

I ended up using my 200 lumens flashlight. ( I got it for Light Writing photography). I got it at Target a year ago. I cupped my hand and laid the egg over it to seal. It felt like I might drop an egg. I would like to get something like a rubber gasket to go on top. But it worked great!!!! My husband was amazed to see in the eggs.

I could clearly see the veins and dark spot and the shape growing. Can't wait to see the heart beat! It's so exciting to see the eggs develop.

I purchased silkie eggs from Ebay they came from Pennsylvania. They all look like dark blobs... i see no veins, so disapointing

. But i also purchased Serama eggs from Ebay came from Georgia and they look great, lots of veins.

I like the toliet paper roll idea. My Flashlight is kind of skinny 1 1/4 inch across the top. I think i need a piece of old hose. Have to see if i can find something thats an inch and quarter around here.... If anyone thinks of something that size let me know.

Im doing great! And The other day one of my Rhode Island Reds went broody! She is sitting on 6 (And the others that the other hens snuck and egg when she was taking a break) And it is day 2! Im so excited! I've been hoping for a broody now i got one!

I think I paid $.99 for an LED flashlight and works great. I do have one egg that I cannto really tell if anything is in it, but I still see veining so, it's still in the bator.

How likely is it that my new mama who just hatched 5 babies (11th-12th) will take on the 20+ babies in the incubator set to hatch on the 27th? I had planned on using a heat lamp, etc. but I really love watching her with the babies. Letting her raise the babies is a very nice idea...I do wish they were closer in age, but 2 weeks isn't that far apart, is it???
