Setting eggs on FEB 10

oh no I hope your temp spike didnt hurt your chicks. Im so glad we picked up a few other folks here! This too is my first hatch so it seems a lot of us are learning together :)

Marked the air cell yesterday (day 7) and I candled them. Nine are growing great (out of 14), one died in the shell, and the other four didn't start to grow. About 13 more days left! Woohooo!

1/3 of the way there!! I have not been marking air cells and have only candled a few as tests, I am just so scared to take them out of the incubator for long periods of time

But I will do a candle on all of them on day 18 to throw out any that are clear. I'm just thrilled that any of them are showing signs of life

This is awesome!

I just went to check on my bator temps and humidity, and the humidity was down to 16%. Last night it was around 25%, but I didn't think anything of it because I had just candled the eggs and opened the bator. I added water to tray 1 just now. Is the low humidity going to hurt my babies?

I"m glad most all of us are having successful hatches (thus far)! I'm a newbie to incubating chicks, but if you have water in your tray I'd think they'd be OK. What type of incubator do you have ChickenPerson?

Well I had a temp dip and I adjusted accordingly (wasn't there long) then it went way up and I re-adjusted again. Not sure if the outside temp is having much to do w/ this or not....no clue since the room the incubator is in doesn't seem to change temp, but thank goodness I was caught it when I did. I believe I have it regulated now I just hope it didn't cause too much damage. I caught it super quick, so here's to hoping.

I have a hovabator 1602N.

My friends are currently doing a hatch with that incubator, they sound like they're pretty good. Of course, I went over today and they told me they were on Day 18 and worried about the eggs. I opened it to candle some of the eggs, and then they realized it was really Day 19

I hope their little chickies will be okay. I feel so stupid about it. We'll see how it goes.

I think they should be okay! Moments of lower temps are a little better than moments of higher temps just because the mother hen does get off her nest. Not sure what's causing the changes, though, mine seems to be fairly stable between 99 and 100.

I plan on getting a much better one for Christmas... If i can wait that long. This is great fun for me. I plan to try my hand with quail next.

Very exciting! I'm interested in quail as well. Plus, the eggs are so pretty it's hard not to want to incubate them.

A friend bought me a Hovabator Genesis 1588 and I'm so far really happy with it, haven't made any adjustments. Of course, now I think maybe I should have gotten a cabinet incubator, so I could do many many eggs at once, even offer incubation services locally.
