Setting eggs on FEB 10

I'm getting another bator with an automatic egg Turner and fan. Ill see how my hatches are effected byit next hatch.

My hatch is done. Out of. 30 eggs 22 were fertile, 1 quit early and 4 didn't make it through hatching. I'm really disappointed that the last one died after popping. I have 17 healthy chicks though, so overall I'm happy.

When I do eggtopsies I proceed as if assistanting a hatch just to be safe.

That's an awesome hatch!

When you say "just to be safe," you mean so you don't get rotten egg explosion everywhere?

I have 9 living chicks from the hatch. 2 of these are looking really tired and might not make it.

I mean in case if I'm wrong for some reason. Better to figure out its not dead when I make an artificial pip and such then by just cracking it on open. I'd never forgive myself for killing a chick because I assumed it was dead. If it didn't reach full term I don't worry about it.

Eeeek, you guys are making me nervous! All 7 of the eggs were rocking a lot yesterday and today (day 20) I can hear peeping from one of them! I'm so nervous!!!

still not a single pip :-( Maybe I should eggtopsy the 2 I think quit on me a week or so ago and hold on just a little bit longer with the other 2. Suggestions?

Ugh, I eggtopsied this morning and all were dead, making it a pretty terrible hatch (7 chicks / 42 eggs). Posted a thread
about it.

I'm not quite sure what went wrong. You got some good answers on your other post. My humidity was a bit higher, never dropped below 30%, and I hand turned.

Me and cowgirl hc are going to set eggs for the Easter hatch to... want to all do this over again together? Maybe we can update in more detail this time to compare and contrast?

Aww HeartMoss I'm so sorry :-( That's almost worse than 0/4 having set so many. I wonder what happened? At what point do you think they stopped developing? You should joun me and bugglesmommy for an Easter hatch. I'm thinking we set around noon on Saturday, March 9th, so hopefully by Easter Sunday we'll have our chickies! OK, how do I do this float test thing? I'll have to see if I can find your link to that post again and try that this evening.

Its pretty simple. You put the egg gently into warm water and wait for it to settle from putting the egg in. If the chick moves at all in the egg it will disturb the water and you should see it.
