Setting eggs on FEB 10

Congrats on the hatch! I'm sorry you had to cull one. At least I have a few days to disinfect the hatcher. Tuesday is serama lockdown.

Here are my 3.

They're beautiful! Is that one in front the polish? So cute to have 1 of each, that was lucky.

Okay, have to share pics of a few of mine. Here are 3 that are examples of each type. I've got 3 big black EE's, 1 tiny blue EE, and 3 black and white bantams.

OMGOSH so cute! We re-candled last night and the one I mentioned was iffy but left in the bator, I removed and opened. Very early quitter like barely started to form, but the air sack was so definite I kept it in. None of the eggs smell, so I guess the odor I'm smelling is just part of hatching. I left the other 3 back in, 1 was so full I could barely make out any distinctions, 1 I swore I saw movement as I rolled the egg, but I shouldn't should I? The 3rd has an odd shaped air cell I didn't notice when lock down. Instead of staying round across the top of the egg (the fat end) it sort of dips down and goes down the side of the egg some. Is that normal? I didn't notice it til yesterday out of all 3 candlings. Can it still hatch?

It doesn't necessarily mean yours won't but the only egg that's air cell went down the side on and made it to lockdown of mine didn't make it. The chick was turned around too much because of the cell. :(

I love the little grey one!

Me too, it's my favorite and it gets healthier every day so I have a lot of hope

One of mine had a funky air cell too! No wonder it couldn't hatch. The air cell had actually dipped down so far it was halfway down the egg. I was worried this meant the humidity had been too low for that egg, but since you guys had that problem too, I guess they sometimes just develop that way.

I've only had that with shipped eggs. I had several so bad it was like a ladle had been placed on it in shape with a long narrow strip of air cell coming down. My phone is so annoying! Constantly replacing what I type with what it wants.

Haha just love phones! NOT! Yea I heard this was common with shipped eggs as well. I figure this evening we are float testing to see where things stand. If nothing else at least we got 2 beautiful lemon cuckoo orps out of this hatch and I *THINK* it's 2 pullets!

I wouldn't count pullets just yet! I'm pretty sure that 7/9 of the birds I kept from my second hatch are roos.

OOOHHHH what a mothers day gift! Well we float tested with no wiggles so we topsied them. OK so we set 8 (3 Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons, 3 Coronation Sussex, and 2 Swedish Hens). 6 made it to lock down and we culled 1 swedish and 1 coronation for detached air cells that never reattached. 5 of the 6 we set I was confident in, 2 I was iffy on. 2 LCO's hatched on Good Friday, leaving me 4. The 3rd LCO I swore I saw rocking, but nothing ever came of it. I recandled when removing the chicks to the brooder and culled the iffy one out and opened it up. I'm pretty sure it was infertile. It was an extra and the size of a pullet egg, but hey stranger things have happened. I waited for the remaining 3 (1 of each breed) and nothing. We float tested when the hubs got home and found the one quit on day 8 or so.....not sure how I missed this but I did, 1 quit around lockdown and still had quite a bit of yolk to absorb, and the other was in the "saddle" shaped aircell egg (the 3rd LCO) and made an internal pip but never got through. I heard this is common in these type of air sack eggs, and the chick was absolutely huge! I mean it had little to no aircell left it seemed and the poor thing couldn't get out. I feel so guilty I didn't pick up on this when candling them. Maybe I could have saved the poor thing :-( So...anyways. At least we had a somewhat successful hatch this time. 2/8 is 25% and this was only our second time setting and with shipped eggs. Can't help the 3 that were infertile or had detached air cells.
