Setting eggs on July 9th, anyone want to join me?

I have 4 pure Chamois poland chicks that my broody hen hatch. Im very happy with them.

All together i have hatched out 16 chicks for the 4 nearly 5 years i have had them. I am meaning to put eggs under my broody hen Masie

That sounds great I think broody hens are a good backup,I'm kinda worried today my incubator temps keep fluctuating between 97 and 99, usually it's at a steady 99

Seems like only 2 of my 52 shipped eggs are making it to lockdown. From my hens 6 out of 6 are making it. UGRRRRR....postal services destroyed the air cells. most of the never developed a few developed the quitted. Next shipment is going to be express mail because are more expensive and scares me that they damage those too. Less time in hands of the mail people maybe gives me better luck.

I was scheduled to lockdown tonight, however one hatched at 2:00am. I quickly pulled out the egg turner and did an early lockdown. Had another chick this morning. Some of the eggs were outside in the very hot temps before going into the incubator. Could that have caused an early hatch? My incubator temps were good, except for one drop yesterday morning with a power outage.

If you come from a hot place it's very possible over heated shipping box started the incubation period a wee bit earlier than expected, cold pack with shipment can help detour this kind of thing.

I started 25 eggs and I am down to 8

All but two eggs from one source had nothing. The two that I kept are questionable, and probably me being desperately hopeful. The rest of the eggs from the second source look pretty good..8 out of 11. Why is it the eggs I paid sooo much for are the ones that kaput?!? The eggs that I got a great deal on...doing well. Poor Scott...we candled his BLRW eggs, I'm pretty sure they are all going nowhere. He started his later than me..but there should at least be veining..some darkness...NOTHING. They all look to me like the air cells were bad. They were from two different sources, but traveled quite a ways in the heat.

I put my 6 Olive Eggers and 2 Speckled Sussex eggs into lockdown...I guess we shall see.

Were they all shipped eggs? Maybe one group had a rougher shipment & were internally damaged? Mine were shipped and I am on lock-down & holding my breath.

I just put 5 of 12 into lockdown. Fingers crossed.

I have one pipping now from some that were from a friend and probably incubating a bit before we ever got them. Amazing that any survived....they were sitting for some days in a box truck and then picked up and put in the fridge!

The rest go into lockdown next week.
