I am setting my Delaware eggs on October 26th. This is my first time and in a homemade incubator.

I hope they make it as I lost my rooster to a dog a couple of days ago, so these are my only eggs from him and he was a perfect Delaware specimen.

Please join in if you are setting eggs around the same time.

Great! Maybe we can compare our progress. I am so hoping to get at least 6 babies out of the 18 eggs I am setting. Not expecting more since it is a homemade incubator and hasn't been tested fully.

A.T. Hagan :

I expect I'll be setting some Silkie eggs tomorrow. Show birds (hopefully) for my daughter and another embryology project.

Stayed up too late last night tweaking the incubator but when I got up this morning it was exactly where I wanted it to be. Tonight when I get home I'll set the Silkie eggs I picked up yesterday.

The eggs should be fertilized for about 2 weeks after you loose your rooster. I put some egg in the incubator about 10 days before you. I am still looking for some purebred delaware locally here and still no luck.

Set my eggs at 9am this morning and turned them for the first time at 9pm tonight. I am only planning on turning them twice a day. Does anybody disagree? I set 19 eggs. Here it goes.

Did you set your Silkies A.T.?

Good luck on your search for Delaware's Speedy. Maybe I can bring you some eggs next summer when I am visiting near Portland.

You may want to turn your egg more than twice a day if you can. The better way is use a 2x4 or something similar and move around from 1 side to other.
My LG have hole on top and I have my water tray with sponge below it. I use the hole to fill up the water. This reduce disturb the temperature inside the incubator.
As for candle the egg, 10 days seem to be the best for me. I used the cut out Parent Choice milk bottle cover the mini 13W fluorescent light bulb (I can send you photo if you like). If you have brighter light source, I am sure you can see much early date. I will candle again around 15 days and throw away eggs that not develop.
I do like to get some delaware and I may have some RIR to exchange if you head down in Seattle or ship.

I will be setting some eggs the night of the 27th. Have been posting on the other Oct. hatch..these will be Black Ameraucana. I really want to see these babies grow into adults..the daddy looks awsome. (I'm a grandma and find myself using these really weird words at times...like Awsome, and totally, and ...like...and dude.) Usually when the kids are around.

Oh yeah, how could I forget, I use the word cool too...especially when I see my first pip, again when I see the zip, and again when I see the baby chick.
