Hello again everybody! I have another egg peeping at me! There might be another chick tonight!

I have a serious question for you- how long is it ok to hear a chick peeping in the egg but is hasn't pipped yet? Won't it suffocate if it doesn't make an air hole pretty soon? It has been peeping since 9am but it hasn't made a hole yet. Won't it use up all the air inside the egg?

Here is a picture of how we fixed the brooder for the new chick. It is working pretty good and Buffy seems happy. The heat lamp is over the little box so Buffy is warmest and only some of the heat goes over to the bigger chicks. Nobody is complaining so I think it is working. That is a screen on top of the little box so they can all see and hear each other but the big chicks can't beat up on my Buffy!

I got the biggest surprise today! Mom surprised me with a new incubator! Here is a picture of it. The whole top is one big window so we can see everything that's happening! It is so much quieter than the old one! We decided to use it as the hatcher for the eggs we have now and then we will use it from the beginning on the next eggs. Mom is always setting eggs on different days so we need 2 incubators, one for growing and one for hatching. Guess I can take the goldfish out of the bucket and put them back in the aquarium now!

, i got peeps. Wheni got home I had one hatched, and the one that was pipped and peepeing all night long popped out about an hr ago. Also have 1 all most all the way zipped. Currently resting. Also have 2 more pipped that I can see. These were set Friday morning, so a bit early, but look good. My kiddos are excited. One will come by this weekend with GD's to see all the babies. We have a bunch of babies lambs as well.

Wow, Alex .. that is great!

We heard peeping one evening ... and all night long ... before we saw a pip the next morning .. It IS nervewracking .. isn't it??

BLRWs I ended up with... 5 splashes (1 iffy, don't know if he'll make it)...8 blue...1 black (that's HUGE) 100% hatch from lockdown on. Started with 16. These were shipped.

Mille fleur Belgian d'Uccles...4 hatched, 6 went to lockdown. 1 is still peeping, but it was the first one to pip, so it's been 3 days, the last egg hasn't done squat. Started with 8. These were hand delivered.

Well my lone chick hatched - no Mr. Ugli recreation. But it is a really pretty silver color with a yellow tummy. I have 13 that I just moved to a bigger brooder and put the lone chick in the old brooder for the next couple of days. Once it gets going good on its feet I will put it in with the week old chicks. They aren't sure what to think about having more space, but they are already starting to try out their wings and it would not have been long before they would have escaped the tote they were in.

So now I have another week to go and there should be another 12 chicks. Then I am done until spring as I don't have a good way to keep a lot of chicks at once.
