Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

Hey Everyone; my Broody Hen did it!  5 of the 8 eggs hatched between day 22.5 and day 23.  I checked the other 3 eggs and they were just stink.

That was this morning, I came home to only find 4 chicks under my Hen, the smallest one is just gone.  Not too sure what happened or where the chick is.  If she was too weak would mom eat her?  I do believe she ate all the shells because those had disappeared as well by the morning when I checked. Hen and chickies are in the coop with the rest of the birds, but no roosters. This is her first and my first batch of eggs.

Also The Rooster of these was a White rock, and the only Hens were golden comets and white rocks, so how did I end up with a mostly black chickie?  Im still pretty happy even though there was a loss.

Ohhhhhh that is tooooo cute!!!! Sorry about the baby chickie - that is yucky :p

As to wrapping eggs to ship...I have received them different ways and all have been excellent...bubble wrapped mostly but also the way you have described even tapped up inside an egg carton then set in a box with paper...it worked...

Well I have 7 chicks out of 8 eggs under my broody...I lifted her up today and oh my...they are just too darn awesome for words...I listened to the last egg but thought I felt it move but couldn't hear anything so I put I back under for one more day...

I am so happy with the results...

11 eggs in bator and all hatched but one chick died within the hour....so 10 chicks

10 eggs under a broody...one didn't develop, I dropped one and killed it, and one egg didn't hatch...so 7 chicks...

I still have another broody sitting on 4 more paint eggs....yay!

Oh...I just realized...I am a chicken hoarder!

Stepping in is a tough decision to make. Every situation is different. It sounds like you are having humidity issues with the stickiness/glue. Here is a great thread on Sticky Chicks

Thank you. After a lot of reading I guess I had my humidity too high during the first 18 days? :( It never went over 40% and never under 25% so I'm not sure what went wrong there. I never opened the bator except on candling days. But I did end up helping chick #3. It was completely glued in place too. I touched the chick, then touched my fingers together, and they STUCK. It actually hurt to pull them apart. I never knew anything like that was possible. So now I have 2 chicks alive and walking around. They are not the cutest looking things I'm sure, to most people (their down is "glued" to their bodies even though they are dry) but mama thinks they are the cutest babies I have ever seen!!! lol I am so happy I at least have two. I know I shouldn't but I keep beating myself up over not knowing to step in with number two. Sigh... I know, learning lesson, all that... but it doesn't make me FEEL any better. So I'm keeping an eye on the remaining eggs for any movement, peeps, or pips but I think the rest might all be dead in shell. I am completely grateful for my little two miracle fighters though!!! Off to set up a brooder in my room. My boyfriend is going to love that I'm sure

Yep its VERY stressful once they rock or pip , no matter how many time you hatch....Need nerve pills or a beer.
If they are just rocking not pipped it might be tomorrow morning or during the night.
Its hard work and take them a while .Work at it rest..... work at it rest.
Hang in there.... and maybe put a runner to your incubator or the rug will have a worn spot from running in there every 5 minutes to look if you are like me.
HAPPY HATCH! COME ON LITTLE CHICKIE BABIES!
