Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

Thank you. After a lot of reading I guess I had my humidity too high during the first 18 days? :( It never went over 40% and never under 25% so I'm not sure what went wrong there. I never opened the bator except on candling days. But I did end up helping chick #3. It was completely glued in place too. I touched the chick, then touched my fingers together, and they STUCK. It actually hurt to pull them apart. I never knew anything like that was possible. So now I have 2 chicks alive and walking around. They are not the cutest looking things I'm sure, to most people (their down is "glued" to their bodies even though they are dry) but mama thinks they are the cutest babies I have ever seen!!! lol I am so happy I at least have two. I know I shouldn't but I keep beating myself up over not knowing to step in with number two. Sigh... I know, learning lesson, all that... but it doesn't make me FEEL any better. So I'm keeping an eye on the remaining eggs for any movement, peeps, or pips but I think the rest might all be dead in shell. I am completely grateful for my little two miracle fighters though!!! Off to set up a brooder in my room. My boyfriend is going to love that I'm sure

I am wondering if the changing weather has anything to do with it. Here in Florida the humidity is not as bad as it normally is and I know I had to up the humidity a little this time around. The humidity that you ran at sounds perfect. What did you up it to at lockdown?

As to wrapping eggs to ship...I have received them different ways and all have been excellent...bubble wrapped mostly but also the way you have described even tapped up inside an egg carton then set in a box with paper...it worked...
Well I have 7 chicks out of 8 eggs under my broody...I lifted her up today and oh my...they are just too darn awesome for words...I listened to the last egg but thought I felt it move but couldn't hear anything so I put I back under for one more day...
I am so happy with the results...
11 eggs in bator and all hatched but one chick died within the hour....so 10 chicks
10 eggs under a broody...one didn't develop, I dropped one and killed it, and one egg didn't hatch...so 7 chicks...
I still have another broody sitting on 4 more paint eggs....yay!
Oh...I just realized...I am a chicken hoarder!
So awesome Darrin. Great numbers and chicken math. So 17 chicks with a possible 5 more and how many adults??? You are definitely a chicken hoarder 100%. Bruhahaha

Congrats to all the new hatches. It has been one heck of a day for me. I was supossed to put Picanins eggs in lockdown around noon and when I went it to feed my chicks and look in on nikki's eggs there were 2 chicks hatched already with 2 more pipped. Had major scrambling to do because her hatcher was not at the right humidity. and I hadn't even set the brooder up yet. As all this was happening my favorite silkie chick that just hatched started to fail and had to deal with her also. She is barely hanging on and I know it is just a matter of time before she is gone.

I also had to work this afternoon/night and was scrambling to get everything done before I left. I will update with pictures of Picanin's chicks tomorrow. I am exhausted from work and have to be back at 7:30am.

The 2 that were zipping have now hatched. I am thinking the B/S egg is a blue. Dark feathers with lighter colored tips on the ends of it wings.

Here are the first two almost dried off:

Sooo cute! Do you have more pictures or have I missed them on this thread? I've been so busy with some sneezing babies and momma. I'm going crazy. I've ordered Oxine and Denegard and they still haven't gotten here. I hope tomorrow. Using the vaporizer a lot.

Oh no! I am so sorry for your little chick...it is heart breaking when there is not much that can be done for them...I just hope he either improves and thrives or peacefully goes. I knew the one that hatched and passed from my hatch wasnt going to make it as it never chirpped and was breathing through its open mouth....it was for the best!

You are a good person for looking after all those eggs...

As for the others that started hatching before lockdown...could their calculation be wrong? I had that happen and two zipped while still in the egg turner one morning...it means they should hatch easily ...good luck with those....

Oh and just went and checked on my momma and babies and.....

The last egg has a pip in it!!! Crazy! I was going to throw it out yesterday but I thought I felt it move so left it till today....that means those eggs took from mon-sat to hatch...crazy! I just hope it hatches...

I was wondering why she was still sitting on the egg and not up itch the chicks...

These chicks are just paints and buffs...my paint roo and one of the four hens with him are giving me some very lovely paint babies...out of 8 paint eggs I got 7 paints and 1 black...
