My Buff Orpington just went broody on Monday Sept. 24th so I put 8 eggs under her (she may have one from a last lay). This is our first broody and our first hatch. So excited. She is a 7mnth BO and sitting on 3 maybe 4 pure BO eggs and 5 Red Production/BO eggs. We'll see how it goes- nervous but excited. :)
I feel like a bummer the voice of doom...telling ppl the worst al lthe time ... but i dont like bad suprises and like to be prepared myself for eventualities sooo .... do you have an incubator? Your broody may do fine but she could stop in the middle. It happens. so if you have an incubator or if you can make one it might be a good idea to set it up heated etc ..in case she stops.
I havent made one but Brookhaven has i think and she said i think it wasnt that hard.
BUT that said she may do perfect!! Just so dissapointing if they dont and you arent ready.
BUT GOOD LUCK and you will have fun for sure!!!

My friend has two and she lives just a couple of miles down the road. She said I could borrow one. So far Wilma has not moved, not even to drink or eat. It took her almost a week to actually sit for longer than 6 hours. My breeder friend (the one with the incubators) said to give it a good 24 hours of her sitting full time before giving her eggs. I did that. I wasn't really planning on new chicks until next Spring, so this is a suprise adventure. I know she's a little young, so it may not work out- but we and for now she is willing to give it a try. The rooster that bred her was just re-homed so it would be nice to have some chicks from him. BIG Al is beautiful.
