Do you think you have a better hatch rate with shipped eggs when you wait before turning the eggs?

I have only done shipped eggs once before and only 1/15 eggs hatched so I really don't know. From everything I have read and seen on other hatches letting the eggs settle for a few days before starting to turn does seem to help. There are a couple of great threads on BYC that go into the technical details as to why it helps. When you are dealing with detached aircells or bubbles inside the egg you want to do everything you can to get those to the top of the egg before the embryo really takes hold.

Unfortunately I will no longer be on this board due to a run-in with a member with no tact nor any form of respectful speech.  I have enjoyed my time on this thread though, and I thank those of you who have been kind, welcoming and warm to me.  I was taught at a very early age never to place myself in an environment in which I would be "unequally yoked" with undesirables, hence I am leaving.  I'm not going to be somewhere where I'm tempted to bite back and sin in my anger by being a poop back to a poop, as it's not in my nature to be that way.  I'm a fun person, quiet person, but chatty at the same time, but one thing I am definitely NOT is very good at conducting my own will.  Sooo...I kinda leave places when I find that I'm unable to let God control me..as I'm a much better person when He does.

Hey Chicky!! The BYC can be an EXTREMELY snippety place, especially if you get on some of those older threads. OH MY WORD!!!!!!!!!! It's ridiculous how mean some people can be. Just steer away from those threads, you will also get to learn which members are justa fight waiting to happen, and then others who are soooooo helpful. It's a really fun place if you hang out in the fun Areas. Patch up the wounds and keep going

Hey is it okay if I join y'all? This will be my first time hatching. I should be getting 12 silver Sussex eggs any day now. So it's important not to turn them for a few days then :/

My Buff Orpington just went broody on Monday Sept. 24th so I put 8 eggs under her (she may have one from a last lay). This is our first broody and our first hatch. So excited. She is a 7mnth BO and sitting on 3 maybe 4 pure BO eggs and 5 Red Production/BO eggs. We'll see how it goes- nervous but excited.

I think we may have the same cross going, as I happened to get three BO roos in with my dozen pullets at Tractor Supply this past spring. My hens are all very uniform, and deep brick red, and none of them are in the least broody. They are free-range during the day, and lay their eggs in the coop nest boxes, but leave the coop shortly after they lay. They came from the container with Red Production and Red sex-links, if I recall correctly (which I may not)! The roos are big beautiful iridescent gold...my profile pic is one of them at about 6mo. They are even prettier now. It was certainly NOT my intention to have roos, but it gives us the opportunity to try our hand at incubating. I just never knew how smitten we would be with these chickens!

Me too, I'm so excited!!! My hubby on the other hand just gave me the your a crazy girl look when i told him what kind of purebred I am going to hatch..right now i have 3 red sex links and 3 EEs. Any tips or helpful info would be greatly appreciated..right now I'm going by the gabbard farm incubator tip sheet.

With shipped eggs I always wait 5 days before starting to turn. You want those air cells to really get a chance to settle. The cells are still multiplying and the veining process hasn't started in those first couple of days. Welcome!!!! I'm going to try this not turning for a few days also! Isn't it exciting!

Very!!!!! I can see why this is so addicting and the eggs are not even here yet XD. I'm going to try to control myself when the eggs arrive to not give the postal worker a hug and dance around like a nut.

Please do join us!!! Yes it is important not to turn for the first few days. You want the contents of the egg to stabilize as much as possible before the veining starts.
