Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

All of my birds are still too young to show. But if the Catdance silkies that I have in the bator now turn out to be SQ I just may do it. I keep written documentation of all my hatches and when it comes time for laying purposes I will keep detailed records of who is in with who. All breeds will be separate so there is no mistaking who the parent birds are.
Cool, thanks for sharing. I'm going to try to show too :)

Well if hubby wants the eggs turned every 2 hours then tell him he has to do it

If he is like most men after a few times he will give up and tell you to do what you were doing...LOL. (I am not being mean here. Just trying to add a little humor into the situation.)
oh he all ready told me just do what your going to do, cause i did threaten if we are going to do that be a split shift

What kind of eggs are they so I can add them to the main post? I am using 2 homemade incubators too. I made mine from Igloo coolers and so far they are working great. I just set 24 Silkie eggs last night and the temp was up to 99.5 within an hour.
Its a random mix, basically to check out fertility. Threes a couple banty eggs, handful of bbb turkey eggs, rest are most likely rir tho i do have i think 7 other breeds out there currently. ( most are just coming to pol).

They are all penned together right now awaiting NPIP testing

Oh I told him to expect maybe 6 to hatch...for some odd reason he thinks all 12 are going to hatch...such a goofy man.
I did that with my last hatch. I was thinking I wanted 6 silkies and 6 Marans and ordered 6 eggs of each. Once I realized my mistake I had to call the lady back and ask her for 12 of each. Come hatching I ended up with 2 Marans and 4 silkies.

I candled day 7 and couldn't resist, I tossed out 3 eggs, there was nothing in them, they were clear and not fertile. I am hoping the rest will continue to develop. I have 9 SLW and two control eggs still in the incubator. I am going to keep the 9 shipped eggs in the egg carton and not start turning them yet, I still have loose/wobbly air cells in some.

One of the eggs I removed popped loud when I cracked it open, good thing it did not explode in the incubator.

Can I join this thread too? I'm new to the forum, and new to hatching eggs. I just set a dozen of mixed barnyard eggs on Sept. 24th. I bought a used LG and a used Hovobator real cheap...and wanted to test them out before ordering eggs to hatch next spring. The neighbor had some layers...so I told him I would try to hatch some out for him...learning experience for me and no guaranttees for him LOL

The bators didnt come with fans or turners, so I bought a fan for the LG and got it running. Am hand turning the eggs...but I can see where I will want to purchase a turner before I hatch my own eggers. The LG is very tempermental and I'm glad I don't work outside the home...I have to constantly keep an eye on the temp. I worried about the humidity too until I read here about dry incubating. The humidity stays around 20-25%...hope that is ok. Will up humidity to 50% last 3 days and stop turning. Would really like to hatch out some Sumatra's next year. I used to have them when I showed in 4-H Poultry in S. California many years ago.

Are the aircells better than they were when you set them? I would start turning pretty soon. Those veins are going to start attaching fairly quickly now.
