Sooo cute!
Sending you positive thoughts!Lock down! PLEASE Lord let my 4 lil SLW eggs hatch!
Yay! So happy for you guys...congrats...
And can I say that this thread moves faster than the silkie thread and that's saying something...
Well I just got home from work and expected to either see some more chicks hatched or the other eggs done and not going to hatch...
Well, I panicked as one egg had some shell off and it had been pipped since Sunday and I was sure it was stuck by now...well it wasn't...it wrapped it in a dish towel run under hot water then chipped some of the large end away with the tweezers and the chick was very much alive but the membrane still had blood through it...luckily I did not tear that...just the shell so I quickly put her back...
I picked up another egg with no pip and held it to my ear and the silly thing was inside tapping away and chirping...so back it went...
I was sure they were done...so I have 6 moved out to the brooder, one just out and wet, one I opened part of the shell but resting and i will let her come out herself and three eggs with chicks still alive in them...
Lesson to learn....DO NOT tamper with your eggs and try to help!!!
I know !..i thought of her when i bought them!!!Shes not on this hatch is she?
Oh okay...does sound like a gamble, cause i have know idea when to interven. Thank you, makes sense nowIf you have to intervene then it is very important to make sure you do not tear through blood vessels in the membrane as the chick will bleed out...when they are ready to hatch the chick stops all blood passing through the veins around the membrane so they can cut a zip throu it...
A lot of people will say never interven but I do and have not regretted it yet....all the little ones that I have helped have made it and grown up just like everyone else...but it is a gamble...
I heard that!!! I just found this thread and am pretty much new to chickens and BYC and I am getting some comfort while I am waiting on my eggs in lockdown, First hatch. I have 6, 3 Leghorns and 3 RIR's. I very nervous. Three of them are rocking. That's what makes these hatch-a-longs so much fun. Sharing the good and the bad with others who are going through the same exact thing as you are.
