Quick question can I give some of these to my broody with week old chicks she hatched or will that not work plus I have another broody due to hatch her eggs Friday was just thinkin I could split them up and give them to broodys to raise. Any thoughts on this?
so what would be the worst scenerio would she kill them or just not let them under her?I would give it a shot. Night time is probably better.
I wonder if shipped eggs shrink wrap more often...I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer last night and went to bed at around 2am with my 2nd chick 1/2 way pipped. I woke up around 7:30 this morning and the chick was totally shrunk wrapped. How does a chick shrink wrap when the humidity is high 60's low 70's? Went to bed and it was 66% and woke up it was 71%. Makes no sense to me. I had to do major shell removal and literally bathe the chick in warm water to get the membrane off. It was so shrunk wrapped that I thought it was missing a wing...LOL. Both chicks are doing well and #3 just finished hatching. Now if the any of the other 5 would do something I would be even happier.
Edit: Oh and BIG congratulations on your hatch!!
Make sure it doesn't cook them, glass holds the heat in big time.hey all, have a questionhow are you setting up your brooders for all the cute little bundles of joy? I had mine in an old baby play pen but i was such a pain in the but to clean when they got older. I am looking at our 10 gallon terrarium it has some bugs that kids catch but lost interest and really tierd of looking at bugs..... and thinking it might work as a brooder since i am expecting no more then 3 to hatch...would that be really good for the little chicks?![]()
That could work...I have cage building stuff laying around.....Thank youMake sure it doesn't cook them, glass holds the heat in big time.
I use a small wire cage, I clip the red light on top facing one end so they can get away from the heat if it is to hot. I line the floor with paper towels so they don't hurt their legs.
70 eggs set bout an hour ago.![]()
