Setting Eggs Sunday April 29th - Hatch-a-long with me!

Candled this morning and two SLW are wiggling for sure. I can't see a thing in the Marans eggs, those things are ridiculously dark! I guess those are going to be a surprise for day 18. I don't see any development in my BBS orps right now, but they are 4 days behind the others so they may just need a little more time.

I did a little candling last night. I had some amazingly visible movement from my frizzle/sizzle polish and olive eggers. Marans eggs were tricky to see into, given egg shell colour... I have a few non fertile eggs... maybe two faint blood rings... otherwise, it's looking really great... I might have to cull my lavender d'uccle egg... but I though I would give it another day. I'm going to take some pictures tonight, as it will be officially day 7. Sorry to hear about your shipped eggs hokankai, that sucks... I'm considering some shipped eggs after this batch, as I want some very specific breeds, I want to try it out. Anyways, good luck everyone!

I culled 8 eggs out of 64. I have 56 in great shape, moving and growing.

3 were Silkies
3 were frizzle/sizzle Polish
1 lav d'Uccle
1 Olive Egger

I think the Marans are all good, I could see a darker area at the bottom of the eggs and the air cell. Its way to hard to see veins, but I think they're all developing. I hope I get a great hatch.

I culled 3 eggs last night, 1 AM, 1 Welsummer, and 1 serama. I couldn't see ANYTHING in my OE eggs...just pitch black. No air cells, nothing, even with two lights shining through...so they'll be mysteries.

8 d'Anvers
6 MFC
6 Cuckoo AM
5 Welsummer
5 RIR
1 Salmon Fav
6 OE
4 BBR
8 Serama

My 8 d'Anvers go into lockdown on Wed!

Lockdown tomorrow for one batch (due 5/13) and another batch due 5/19... the few for the 13h are my own eggs... the 19th are eggs I bought from GraceJr... looking forward to seeing what I get out of those ones :)

I just found a duck nest in my yard and it was right by my pool! I had to add the eggs to my incubator because my dad wanted to get rid of the nest. I feel bad for the mother, but a cholrinated pool is no place for ducklings... not to mention all the preditors in and around my yard. I'm going to candle them tonight, see where they're at. My 56 chicken eggs are still doing great...

You are going to have a whole lot of babies running around!

Took a peek last night and it looks like I have 1 infertile, 1 early quitter and 1 blood ring, everyone else looks good. I can see movement in some of the Marans eggs but some are still too dark to see much.

Crossing my fingers that everything continues on fine.

I'd like to ride with ya'll. I set 54 various marans and a few New hamp and new hamp X. I culled 6 on my day 7 candling and found one "stinker" yesterday. Tonight I'll be doing my 14 day candling. I'm pretty optimistic, but I'm using an incubator that I made in a styro cooler that I salvaged from a housefire we had last summer. It's been doing very great so far. I did have a bit of temp increases around day ten but that always seems to happen at that point. I think the chicks may begin generating their own heat around then, I always have to make that compensation.
Looks like everyone's eggs are doing great, so I'm glad I found this thread to join.
