Setting eggs today...20th May...anyone else?

Dudes!!

It is unzipping! And it turned around so I could see better! :D. Good obedient chick!

Also, I think I hear a second, different cheep.

Eep. Eep eep. I am SUPER. Excited!

Lol...yes, normally pip to zip is 6-12 hours but it sounds like its zipping now from what you said...very excited for you...

As for the run, hmmm. Guess a lot depends on your budget. How many months of the year are you snow-free?

congratulations...photo?

Ugh ten feet of snow. I would hate that. We left upstate new York because I hated the 6 months of snow, but it was never that deep...

YES! We demand pics, woman!

Lockdown begins for me right now. Waiting is the worst part! Ugh! If I didn't work from home this wouldn't be nearly as maddening!

CONGRATULATIONS Alaskan! Top stuff!!

So your girls just free range in warm weather and use the green house in the winter time or do they go outside all year round? How lucky are they! Their own greenhouse! The extension on the roof sounds interesting. Are you extending for protection from predators - I don't think it would work, if you are extending for more snow protected areas, sounds like it would work. Have you secured that door the rogue dog got in through?

And congrats again on the healthy chickies!

In snow free weather they have the entire run, which usually has a net on the top. Then in winter, when the net gets torn down by the snow, they have the shed and the greenhouse.

I just really want to set it up so that they can get out into the run during the six months that we have snow. I want to have chicken wire not net on the top, since both the dogs and the raptors, both can and have, busted right through the fishnet. But, then I need to figure out how to make it so that the supports don't collapse beneath the snow load. The net catches and holds the snow, and the weight then breaks it. I am sure the chicken wire will hold the snow too, so I need to support it with strong enough supports so that nothing breaks.

My too big predators here are dogs, they wander in from who knows where....and every raptor known to man (at least it feels like that).
