Setting eggs today...20th May...anyone else?

So evil buff broody decided, the best babies aren't ones you hatch yourself. They are the ones you steal. So she stole the red sex links baby and called it her own.

Then te red hatched out 2 more babies and in the night they vanished, same thing happened a couple weeks ago with a Rhode ISland Reds baby... I think another hen is eating them or something.. Ew.

Strange things going on in your coop Brairgirl!

Unfortunately our little one with the bad legs is no better. And to put it nicely we will have to cull her today. It has been 3-4 days and zero improvement. In fact I am sure she is still alive only because I am keeping her hydrated with hydralite, in the 'real' world I think the Mother Hen would have rejected her immediately.

Oh ashem!

So sorry for you! I had to 'get rid of' one of the chicks that came with my hatchery order.....I definitely don't like it. Blach

Amy, I know! It is SO MUCH harder to be patient at the end. I kinda wanted to scream, "either die or hatch already!!" That was one of the reasons I went ahead and opened the last three eggs that hadn't pipped yet. I opened in the air sack end, knowing it might mean that I would loose the chick if it were still alive, but I just couldn't stand the wait anymore. I started with my remaining olive egg, since I wasn't so attached to it, just in case it was alive, and my opening ended up killing it. But, once I saw that the remaining olive egg was dead, I went ahead and carefully opened up the last two Marans eggs. It was very sad to see that those three had made it so far, but then not all the way. :( but I had cute healthy chicks too, so I focused on that.

I have no idea how you are keeping sane with only one egg in your incubator. I would have gone totally loco by now!

Oh, Ashie...I'm so sorry. *hugs*

I don't know what to do...should I candle it to be sure? I mean, if there's no pip, would the temporary lowered humidity really be that bad?

Amy, when was his "due date"?

The risk of taking him out to candle, is spinning him around so that he has trouble pipping, not just the humidity. But you can always put him back with a warm wet paper towel, so that the humidity doesn't drop.

If he was due yesterday, or maybe even today, since I have NO patience, I would carefully take him out and candle without turning the egg at all.

But I do very badly with suspense. I just NEED TO KNOW!!!!

Tomorrow morning will mark 25 days, the hatch date for Calls. But I'm unsure if a hatch date means the first pip, or the completely out of the shell?

As tempting as it is, I'd wait and let the duckling do what it needs to. It's still on schedule, so breaking the lockdown at this point would do more harm than good.

It's gone... ._. I candled today and the veins have disintegrated and there's no movement. All I see is a gelatinous lump where the duckling used to be.
