Setting eggs today...20th May...anyone else?

That chick is a Cochin/Sussex cross, judging by the feet. They end up being good-sized birds with rough lacing, like this pullet in the brooder right now:

Here's another photo of a brief respite from the rampage. The goofball keeps trying to climb over eggs and falling on its back like a turtle.

I'm getting antsy waiting to hear from other folks!

YOU'RE antsy? I'm not even sure if my lil' bugger is alive, hehe!

I'm hoping someone can answer that for me since the Duck forum is being rather quiet...is it normal for a Call egg to be completely dark by day 18?

IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!

I went and got a real good small LED flashlight for better candling, and lo and behold I could finally see into the egg juuuuust a little and I saw...MOVEMENT! It also looks like it's right on track; just a tiny bit of veining and clear space between egg and 'ling that I could see. So little Wobbles still has a shot, after all!

Wish me luck, we'll know on Friday if it's gonna make it. @_@;;

Congratulations!

I decided to zipper the backwards chick. I removed a ring of shell and wetted the membrane, and it managed the rest. Poor little thing was contorted so that it couldn't move. I'm not letting myself be optimistic about its chances, but so far its moving well and napping when it can. The two other hatches are going every which way in the brooder- no problems with them!

So! That's three down, three to go. I'll probably stay up a while to catch them.

Poor dear...somehow I have a feeling he'll be okay though. Was he glued in?

Gofygure, glad to hear things are moving along for you. So far the chick that started zipping has stayed in the same position. I have two more zipping but they are taking hours doing so. Three other pips and waiting on 15 more to pip. This hatch is taking their good ole time.

Man...after being with you guys through all these hatches I have a newfound respect for birds. Can you imagine if people were born the same way? I don't think I could do it. I never worked out my gams much, anyway :p

Gofygure - those Cochins are lovely!

I am so so so so so so so so so so so so happy that this is almost over!!

I am so very tired of perpetually wondering if I have killed all of my chicks...

So...about 14 hours from now will be my last turning and then lock down!

YEAH!

I am going to try to candle tonight, when my house is dark. Tomorrow I will try to set up the eggs so that there is more space between them, and *maybe* I will be able to talk myself into removing the clear eggs.

I do not know what the problem is...but I just keep hoping that the clear eggs will miraculously suddenly be full of baby chick.

I am super happy for you Amy! Maybe maybe maybe a super cute ducky!

And everyone else with chicks, YEAH!
